A Must Buy!!!,
By
This review is from: Norah Jones - Live from Austin, TX (DVD)
I bought this DVD about two weeks ago and am watching it for the fourth time. I must say that I knew of Norah Jones, but wouldn't have considered myself an avid fan, that is about to change.
Watching Norah and her Handsome Band perform her many sultry songs is just such a treat. I very much enjoy the unusual percussion instruments, Norah's laid back style and humility, not to mention the well above average talents of each band member. I was surprised that another reviewer stated that she appeared to have taken on the style of a Diva and had lost her humility, I just didn't have that impression at all after watching this DVD four times. She gives credit to each band member, mentioning all names and doesn't try to over-shadow anyone of them. I would characterize Nora's vocal style as a triple threat melding jazz, blues, and country-folk. Her playlist is well-rounded and I think most people would enjoy at least 90% of the songs on this DVD. This DVD is a must own for anyone who truly enjoys female vocalists. I was also surprised to see that Norah performs many songs away from the piano playing electric and acoustic guitar. Buy this DVD, you will be glad you did!

Norah aiming high,

Norah recorded this impressive live performance on June 2007; this touching and seductive appearance reaches its highest point while playing guitar on "Come Away With Me" and piano on "Don't Know Why." Some previous unreleased songs gave this concert a "special touch". She is definitely one of the current best female jazz-blues performers. (Dedicated to you B)

This is a very good concert, by Norah & her band. This was filmed on June 14, 2007. It has an approximate running time of 76 minutes. Most of the songs were written by Norah, herself. What can be said about Norah Jones that isn't positive? Her voice, her lyrics, her delivery, her music - all first class.

Good image and sound quality
18 songs, some are already present in her other DVDs but they made a good job in re-creating them, and for the new ones, they keep up the level. In all, excellent value for the money.

Although Norah and the Handsome band do not appear to be having much fun on stage, the musical arrangements and versions of her songs on this album are top drawer. This makes owning this disc a must for any Norah Jones fan. Five stars. Unfortunately, I have to agree with others that were critical of the recording/mastering of this disc. You don't have to be an audiophile to be irritated by the bombastically over-emphasized muddy and distorted bass (I'm dumbfounded how this was approved for production). The other portions of the recording are not as clean and clear as her other recordings nor as well presented as some other concert discs, but not nearly as offensive as the bass notes. The bass makes the disc difficult to listen to. Sound Quality: One Star. It's really unfortunate, as this could have been a very special disc. Funny thing is when I recorded this concert from PBS-HD, it did not have any of these sound issues and the video had a bit more enticing edit and was of course in high definition. I'm thinking the folks at New*West may have messed up a real gem. I'm hoping one day we will get a Blu-ray high-definition version with a clean soundtrack.

For the people that likes Norah Jones, this is a great buy, the show is awesome, her performance is simply "good" and the band sounds great, the scenario is ok too, I really enjoyed this show, the first time that I watched I did it with my baby girl and she enjoyed a couple of songs, "good sign", the only bad in this DVD is when it ends.
Enjoy it

The first side of this review is all praise, Norah Jones, everything about her, from her outstanding musical abilities to her eye catching good looks are in this dvd. What is lacking here though, is good acurate proportional sound reproduction. Norah`s vocals are right on, most instruments are heard well, the base fiddle and drums however, are distant sounding and over bearing. This judgement is made being heard on a very capable sound system. What this comes down to is to listen with this flaw or not to listen at all, I`m still glad that I own this dvd.
