Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2-- While sick in bed, Nora also suffers from a bad case of boredom. She watches with interest the pedestrians who stop to smell, and ultimately pick, the lovely roses that grow outside her window. Saddened by her own lack of mobility, the child drops off to sleep and dreams that the roses invite her to a party. She romps with the fairylike blossoms until she's awakened by a cow consuming the last of them. With only one bloom left, Nora decides that the only way to preserve the rose is to draw a picture of it. The story has a gentle sweetness enhanced by exquisite watercolor illustrations. The delicate flowers glow with translucent color, while Nora and her toy companions exude personality and charm. While perfect for one-on-one sharing with a sick child, all children will be able to identify with the tedium of "sick days" and budding young artists will appreciate, and perhaps imitate, Nora's creative solution. --Lori A. This review is from: Nora's Roses (Paperback)
I love Nora's Roses- it is a delightful book for a young child or for anyone who remembers being in bed with a cold. The illustrations are particularly charming; in fact they would stand alone. I especially appreciate the multi-cultural, multi-generational characters (not to mention the animals). Nora's imagination adds more to the story as well!
