Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

When space is tight and quality entertainment is a priority, you'll get the most home-theater bang for your room--and your budget--with an all-in-one entertainment center like Norcent's stylish DP1800. Hook your TV up to the DP1800's combination DVD player/integrated amplifier and five-satellite/powered-subwoofer speaker system and you're ready for powerful multichannel surround sound from movies and concert videos--not to mention playback of your homemade MP3 CD compilations.

The aluminum-paneled DVD player is compatible with DVD-Video, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, and JPEG image CDs. DVD functions include resume and memory play (great when you're listening to CDs), A-B play (for looping a segment), parental locks, picture zoom, eight-grade fast or slow motion, and nine-picture "strobe" viewing. The player handles either NTSC or PAL video conversion, compatible with non-region-encoded DVDs from overseas. Two auxiliary audio inputs let you hook up a VCR, camcorder, satellite receiver, or other device. The system includes a full-function remote control.

The speaker package features five satellites (left, center, right, and left/right surrounds) with frequency responses of 200 to 20,000 kHz (+/- 3 dB), while the 8-ohm, 50-watt powered subwoofer covers the low frequencies from 20 to 200 Hz. The 4-ohm satellites are powered by 20 watts per channel (at 1 percent THD).

Composite-, component-, and S-video outputs bring compatibility with almost any television. The receiver decodes full Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound and sends each channel to the appropriate speaker. You can also connect the player's digital-audio output (one RCA coaxial) to a CD or minidisc recorder for easy music transfers (though be aware that DVD audio program cannot be recorded this way).

What's in the Box
DVD player/integrated surround amplifier, five satellite speakers, powered subwoofer, remote control, remote batteries, user's manual, and all requisite cabling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best value in DVD/Home Theater combo, June 30, 2003

I am very impressed with its stylish looks, quality pictures & sound systems. It took me only 15 mins to set it up. Don't be misled by its low price, it is by no means an entry level system. If you have been debating on whether to get a branded home theater system, my advice is to buy this system and use the savings to buy/rent the DVD movies!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great product, September 6, 2003
This review is from: Norcent DP1800 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I was a little sceptical given the price, but i bought one anyway. It offers great performance, sounds pretty good and i can play all my mp3s and even view digital photos. There's even an FM/AM radio and two additional Aux inputs. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice system but some problems., March 31, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Norcent DP1800 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I bought this as a second system for my bedroom. I already have a much more expensive reference system in my living room. I was offered a Phillips 9 inch colour portable very cheap and thought this would go great with it. I spent some time installing the speakers around my bed with the front three, subwoofer and monitor on special shelving at the base. I have to admit I was totally blown away with the sound quality and volume possible from this little unit. Norcent should have added adjustable bass and treble controls because the bass while impressive on DVD material is too much on CD or on information fed to the input jacks.

Unfortunately my unit developed a problem with intermittent sound output on the right front and surround channels. At first I fiddled with the speaker wires and got the sound back but the problem kept re-occuring so I've had to ship it back to Norcent for repair. The speaker terminals are cheap and nasty and let down an otherwise nice little performer.

Given that this unit will probably be installed in a lot of bedrooms and dens a headphone socket would be useful for late night use.

Overall good and, if it hadn't developed this problem, I'd say an incredible value unit. To be honest I've had just as much fun using this as my other system which cost as much as a small car!
