3.0 out of 5 stars Great deal for the price
Well, I've only watched a few DVDs on the 302V, but I have to say I am pretty happy. The player does all that was advertised and more! As to playing different region DVDs, it actually has a remote button to switch among NTSC, PAL, and multi-region. No hacks needed! I WILL say that I am slightly disappointed in some artifacts on the screen, primarily bleeding of color...

5.0 out of 5 stars Tested - works vey well in India (220-240V, PAL TV System) !, November 6, 2003
This review is from: Norcent DP302V DVD Player (Electronics)
I talked with my brother in India. He was successfully able to play DVDs in India without any issues by directly plugging in AC outlet (without 240/220 v to 120/110 v convertor) and by selecting Pal from N/P button. It is awesome!! Go for it!! Very small, very good. Highly recommended. A++++

5.0 out of 5 stars Region break for 302V, September 28, 2003
This review is from: Norcent DP302V DVD Player (Electronics)
Well this is what many of you are waiting for, I have this player and I just now got rid of the region...
Do this -
Power on
Open/Close
Setup (You'll see the setup screen)
8 8 8 8
Press "Next" (>>| button i.e. chapter change button)
The setup screen flashes and you'll see that a new button "Version" appears on the screen. There you can set the region code to 0.

Now I have no been able to test the player with multiple region DVD(s) but I am sure it would work. Well DP300 hack was working.
btw all credit for this to www.regionfreedvd.net

I initially bought coby dvd player which supposed to be suitable for pal/ntsc and dual voltage. But It didn't play VCDs. This Item is very good in look ,slimmer and smaller than coby.It plays almost all dvd and vcd players.

Other than the size of the Remote everything about this dvd player is good.I recommend this for people whoever wanted to take this to india.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, October 22, 2003

Excellent player, and looks great, too.
I have not tried it in multiregion mode or at 240V, but have no doubts it will work.
Despite what Thai Dang Vu said in his review, DP300 IS in fact 240-volt compatible. I was slightly puzzled when I looked at the label on the back (of DP300) indicating it's 120V. I then called Norcent technical support, who told me that since my player was from a batch manufactured for sale in US, it mentioned only the 120, but that all units work at 240. I then called my friend in Europe for whom this player was a gift, and a few minutes later he informed me that the player works like a charm. He has a PAL TV, and was able to view US DVDs I sent him, as well as region-free and region-locked DVDs from UK, Russia, China, and Italy (I stopped following up at that point :)
This time I purchased 2 302Vs, tried them here in the US just to see if they work (and they do), mailing them to my relatives in Europe now.
By the way, Norcent's Tech Support is fantastic, they pick up quickly (1-2 minutes) and will answer any of your questions -- feel free to inquire about specific countries / regions / voltages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Playing DVD's from France on American machines, October 11, 2003
By A Customer
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Norcent DP302V DVD Player (Electronics)
I was delighted to be able to play three DVD's my son brought back from a summer's study in Paris. I teach French and German, and was disappointed that I had three, brand-new DVD's I couldn't play. Thanks to a hack shared by Vijay from Napierville, I was able to set the Region to 0, and enjoy my DVD's. Only problem, the volume is a little screwy: the background sound is loud, but the dialogue is very soft. I just may need to do some more tweaking. The actual picture quality was at least as good as my $200 Panasonic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Norcent, August 22, 2003

I purchased several units of DVD model DP300 and was extremely pleased with them so I thought I would try this unit out as well. This unit is ultra slim and has a full size chassis so it fits perfect in the home theater rack. Performane has been flawless and the price was even better. This is the best DVD player in the market for the $$.

5.0 out of 5 stars dvd player is PERFECT for me, November 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Norcent DP302V DVD Player (Electronics)
for the money this is awesome. i have a really nice powered surround speaker system for my computer but i don't really need it for my computer. so i got this dvd player and hooked up my surround sound to the dvd players 5.1 rca outputs. this is the cheapest dvd player i've found with the built in dd decoder. plus this player plays vcd's and svcd's, i've tested them. and i've heard of a region-free hack but haven't tried it. the picture quality is really good. i can't see any difference between it's picture quality and playstation 2's dvd player's picture quality. but i have seen worse. and i have the component video output so it's really nice. i think the remote is very user-friendly and responsive but not that stylish. the remote also has all of the buttons you want. and the set-up menu is pretty useful. there are a good amount of useful things you can mess around with in it.
what i don't like about the dvd player is it's compact size. it's not full component size so it looks a little weird, but i don't really care. also the buttons on the front of the dvd player are kinda cheap. that's it really.

I WILL say that I am slightly disappointed in some artifacts on the screen, primarily bleeding of color into white letters when the credits roll. But this may be more my composite video connections. I'll likely get a Monster Cable S-video hookup. Also, I have to confirm others' comments on the remote. It does a lot, and the buttons are well-spaced, but it is confusing as hell to use and there appears little logic to how it is laid out. It also would be nice to have Power On/Off on the remote.

Originally purchased as a player for a little TV in my office, this bargain-basement machine was forced into service on our big screen when my high-end Sony went down. The result? The video output was actually sharper and the audio was just as good! Hmmm.
