Great ideas!,
This review is from: Nordic Felted Knits (Paperback)
I loooove this book. The fringe ideas alone are well worth the price! I must warn that there are not a lot of in depth directions given, so you kinda have to know a thing or two about knitting and felting before you give this a try. Thanks so much to this author for sharing these great patterns with us!

Pain to translate!,

This book has great ideas and pictures. I was super disappointed in the directions on each pattern! The author gives a yarn type, no yardage requirement for each design! Tons of abbreviations and little explaination. I am a beginner, but have figured out several other patterns without any trouble. Their is a "key" in the beginning of the book, so if you don't mind flipping back and forth constantly you'll be fine. All needle sizes are in mm, no conversion for that either. If I had flipped through the book first I wouldn't have purchased it for these reasons - the designs are cool, but I'm not sure if it's going to be worth the trouble. I bought it on-line, so I'm stuck for now.... Good luck!

I find this book "Nordic Felted Knits" to be charming with Gerd Fjellanger's originally stunning designs and techniques. I have search for some information on Gerd, but everything on her site is in Norwegian and it is in flash and Google cannot translate flash. Gerd does tell a little about herself in the introduction to her book which is in English. I have tried emailing her that does not go through so I am lacking any personal information on Gerd. I am hoping to collect some information from you, here on Craft Gossip. This book reveals many lovely and unique designs and patterns for you to knit and felt and we get an idea of Norwegian styles which are very charming as well as contemporary. The Photographs in this book are delightful and allows us a glimpse of the lovely landscape of Norway. This book is in English and Gerd gives a fairly good translation of sizing for the English readers, so I think you can figure everything out and come up with some wonderful knits to show off. So if any of you can point us to more about Gerd, please let us know. As usual you can pick up Nordic Felted Knits at Amazon. From the book:Gerd Fjellanger has been knitting since she was very young, and she says, `I have my mother to blame. I was fascinated by her ability to create mittens and socks (and whatever else we needed) with just a ball of yarn and two needles. She taught me the basics when I was six, so all through my childhood I dressed up my happy dolls in my own designer clothes.'Her training includes weaving, sewing, designing and constructing, and she says `I have not pursued any of these careers exclusively, but the skills I acquired have been the foundation for my career.'Sixteen years ago Gerd started up as a knitting designer for a Norwegian yarn company. Five years later she stepped out into the unknown and started freelancing, and five years ago she decided to start her own business. She now supplies knitting designs and instructions to yarn companies and magazines on a regular basis. Gerd' Website.
