5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST fish oil on the market!
Many experts believe that a high quality fish oil is probably the most important supplement we can take. This is in part, due to the fact that the average American diet is severely lacking in omega 3 fatty acids, but is very high in omega 6. 3.0 out of 5 stars Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega fish oil
This product contains EPA 650mg and DHA 450mg which is a lot of what you
want in a fish oil product. The only issue I have with Ultimate Omega is
that is also has (for me anyway) a lingering aftertaste.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST fish oil on the market!, March 26, 2011
This review is from: Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega, 1,000 mg Fish Oil, 180 Soft Gels (Health and Beauty)
Many experts believe that a high quality fish oil is probably the most important supplement we can take. This is in part, due to the fact that the average American diet is severely lacking in omega 3 fatty acids, but is very high in omega 6. According to the literature I have read, the ideal ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 should be 1:1. However, the average American diet is estimated to provide a ratio of 33:1!

Another problem with consuming enough omega 3 is the fact that our oceans have been polluted, so nutritional experts caution eating too much fish. Some have gone as far as to not eat fish at all (though I think that is extreme).

Because of the pollution in our oceans, it is important that when choosing a fish oil supplement that it be molecuarly distilled. I personally avoid ones that simply claim to only be purified of mercury, because mercury isn't the only problem. While products that say this might very well be purified to remove other impurities, the fact is, I like to see things in black-and-white. Otherwise, if impurities other than mercury were to be found in the fish oil product, the company couldn't be held accountable because they never claimed otherwise. Fortunately, not only is Ultimate Omega molecularly distilled, but it also far exceeds the International Fish Oil Standards (I.F.O.S.) expectations in purity in every area tested. So Ultimate Omega can be taken with full confidence, that it is simply the the purest fish oil available surpassing some of the strictest standards in the world for fish oil.

Another thing to take into consideration when choosing a fish oil product is that the product provides an effective dose to get desired results. According to many experts I have read, if someone has no health problems, then 1000 mg of EPA & DHA (combined) is usually sufficient for preventative measures.

It can be difficult to find a fish oil product that provides 1000 mg of EPA & DHA in a single serving (usually two softgels). Nordic Naturals' Ultimate Omega provides 1100 mg of EPA & DHA in two softgels (each softgel containing 1000 mg of fish oil). Most standard fish oil products provide only 600 mg of EPA & DHA per 2000 mg of oil. Which means that one would have to consume approximately 4 g (4000 mg) of fat to receive a dose of EPA & DHA comparable to what Nordic Naturals' product offers with just 2g (2000 mg) of fat.

With all that said, some might still be wondering why they should pay the premium price for Ultimate Omega. Because, the truth is, there are other fish oil products out there that can provide at least 1000 mg of EPA & DHA in just two softgels, but at a much lower price. The difference lies in one more place: most fish oil products are in an ethyl ester form, while Ultimate Omega is in a triglycerides form. There have been some debate among experts between which is the superior form. Many proponents of ethyl ester forms felt that the triglycerides form was all hype. However, in 2010, scientific findings have shown that the triglycerides form actually absorbs anywhere from 50-70% better than the ethyl ester form.

- Ultimate Omega can be taken with FULL confidence that it is the purest fish oil on the market, far exceeding the standards of the I.F.O.S.

- It provides a convenient way to receive effective dosages of EPA & DHA in a single serving.

- The omega 3 is provided in a form that has higher absorption than 99% of all other fish oil products.

- Nordic Naturals is one of the most trusted companies in the world for fish oil products, and Ultimate Omega is a good testament to why that is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fish Oil took care of my Excema, July 8, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been using about 3000mg of DHA and EPA combined as suggested my my doctor (that is about 6 capsules of the Ultimate Omenga). I noticed a few weeks after taking fish oil that the terrible eczema that I had been battling for over a year was going away. It went completely away. I went off of the fish oil I was using for a couple weeks(I was using a cheap brand from Sam's Club) because my Dr. recommended using a higher quality brand of fish oil and suggested Nordic Naturals. My eczema started to come back from being off of fish oil but after using the NordicNaturals Ultimate Omega it has started going away again!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST FISH OIL, June 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've been using Nordic Naturals for years. It's the best brand of fish oil by far. Very pure, no PCB's, metals, etc. It's recommend highly by dieticians, too. I love it b/c I hate fish - the smell, taste, you name it. You never taste the fish b/c it comes w/ lemon oils in it - you only taste the lemon. Fish oil has totally improved my skin, hair, and joints as well. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Assists with dry eyes, January 16, 2011

Amy K Gutierrez (San Jose, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega, 1,000 mg Fish Oil, 180 Soft Gels (Health and Beauty)
My optometrist recommended these six months ago to help with my dry eyes. At that time, I was also taking the perscription eye drops restasis to assist with dry eyes. In October my life went side-ways for a little while and I stopped taking any meds. My eye conditions worsened and so I again started taking Ultimate Omega and felt improvement immediately. Rarely do you take a supplement and notice such a difference. At this time, I do not take restasis...I only use the Ultimate Omega supplements.

I commented on this to my optometrist at my last visit and she said Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega is consisently mentioned at the various seminars and professional developments she attends. And, she said research is finding Ultimate Omega is helping with many eye disorders and diseases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but worth every cent, September 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've taken fish oil supplements in the past, and couldnt get past the fishy taste. I also never noticed a difference in how I feel. A friend recommended these to me, and though it killed me to spend the money, I bought a bottle. Number one, no fishy taste or aftertaste. Number two, the best surprise ever - because even though I started taking these for all my bone and joint ailments, I was shocked to notice how my ANXIETY has gotten better. I have terrible anxiety, I have an open RX for xanax, and take on an as needed basis, which is really only about one or two times a month. I have been battling this anxiety for the past three or four years. Lately I have noticed the anxiety is GONE. The only thing I have changed in my lifestyle is that I started taking this supplement. Coincidence? I don't think so! I am pretty darn happy about it too.

Another note if you buy these, keep them in your refrigerator - my friend has had a few bottles actually go bad and her chiropractor told her keeping them in the fridge will prevent this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, February 19, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega, 1,000 mg Fish Oil, 180 Soft Gels (Health and Beauty)
I did some research before buying and this product met my criteria:
1) High content of DHA and EPA
2) Manufactured in oxygen-free environment with low heat
3) Molecular distillation to ensure purity
4) Fatty acids are in the natural triglyceride form.
5) Reputable company
6) Reasonable price
7) No fishy after-taste (which would indicate oxidation).

I am very satisfied with this supplement, and will continue using it.
One note: the description is incorrect: there are no "Added vitamin D3 in smaller, strawberry-flavored soft gels" - which is what I expected after looking at the Nordic Naturals website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doctor recommended, April 5, 2011
This review is from: Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega, 1,000 mg Fish Oil, 180 Soft Gels (Health and Beauty)
Two doctors recommended this brand by name. They said not to buy the cheaper brands, as they aren't as pure and don't work as well. Eat 1/2 hour before taking the pill, and you shouldn't be bothered by fishy burps.
