One of my children insists that any pancakes be made using this pan! They are generally cute, and fun to eat. Overall this is a pretty good product.

As others have alluded, there are a couple things that require practice.

1) Amount of batter - too much, and it "muffin tops" out, and glues all of the neighboring pancakes together. Too little and you get these odd not-quite-circles. Amount will vary with the quantity of leavening in your pancakes, so it's not a simple measure of "use X."

2) Flipping the darn things. You have to try to get an implement in under the edge to pick it up without gouging, breaking, etc. while also not scratching the non-stick surface. Several of the above suggestions work - it's just a pain. Some sort of included implement would be a big plus.

Notes: A little cooking spray helps release the pancakes more easily, even though it is already nonstick. Also, I usually am simultaneously cooking regular pancakes, so rather than try to flip them back into this pan, I cook the other side on a griddle - much neater.

Style Name: Silver Dollar Pancake
Lighter than a cast iron pan but with substantial weight to conduct heat evenly, this Nordic Ware Silver Dollar Pancake pan makes quite attractive small pancakes. The round indentations have a 3 1/4 inch diameter and are 1/4 inch deep. Regular pancake batter works fine and turning them is easy even if they puff up quite high, just don't overload each compartment - about 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoon of batter is plenty.

There is only one recipe included with the pan - Buttermilk Pancakes - so if specialty pancakes are desired, recipes will need to be obtained elsewhere (many are available on-line.) I've used the pan for blueberry, sweet potato and sour dough pancakes with great success. And, as with all non-stick pans, do not use metal utensils or harsh scouring pads on the surface - and be sure to keep the heat medium-low, never on high. And, although the pan is non-stick, brush with oil before each use.

I received this pan as a gift and wondered if it would be relegated to the back of the cabinet, taken out once a year, but I've actually been using it at least once a week to prepare both pancakes and eggs. The compartment is exactly the right size to make a perfect round circle of scrambled eggs for an English muffin breakfast sandwich.

The pan also works well for mini-crepes. Tiny desserts are a favorite because the indulgence is small. I used hazelnut spread as the filling and added a small scoup of vanilla bean ice cream to the plate (whipped cream would work well, too) and drizzled a little chocolate sauce over the top and it was a tiny confection that no one at dinner could refuse. Seconds? Why not!

As with all Nordic Ware merchandise, it is made in the USA. It is a high quality pan and with proper care, should last a lifetime.

Update: Costco has this one for $19 right now...don't know how long it'll have. So Hurry!!

It's very easy to use. Trick to flip the pancake: get one of those cute tiny mini spatula that is about the size of each pancake or even smaller so that it won't touch the adjacent one while flipping. Use it to lift the pancake slightly, then with help of a butter knife or spreader or little fork, flip it over...easy without problem. But the pattern shows well only one side of the pancakes, unless you use a batter that doesn't bubble too easily, then you sometimes could have a slight pattern on the other side after flipped.

Non-stick surface, light-weight and most importantly, makes great plättar. Plättar is a Swedish type of blini, like a smaller version of Swedish pancakes.

Got this for my birthday from my mom (it had been in my wish list for while) and I am not disappointed. I have three little boys who love pancakes and I don't have room for a large waffle iron in my kitchen. I tried this out (using the recipe included with the pan) and they were delicious and easy.

My tips for success: butter or oil the pan before you put the mix in and only cook 4-5 at a time (otherwise I had trouble flipping them fast enough--or else I need to turn it down some more!) Sprays don't work as well (same as any other non-stick surface--they leave residue and buildup on the Teflon); oil with a basting brush is better. You use a fork to flip them and it's actually not too hard to flip them back into the little holes.

Bottom line: Great purchase. Fun. Tasty waffles. Worth the money! :)

P.S. Here is the recipe in case you misplaced it. I think that they work best with the recipe that came with it.

Nordic Ware Silver Dollar Waffle Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup flour
½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. sugar
¾ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tbsp. melted butter

Directions
Preheat pan over medium heat and season with butter or oil. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, sugar, baking powder and salt; set aside. Beat egg until light and fluffy. Add egg, buttermilk and butter to dry mixture; mix until blended. Spoon about 2 Tbsp. butter into each cavity, and cook until pancakes bubble. Turn each pancake over and continue cooking until pancakes are a light golden brown.
