5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful Nordic Ware pan!
I love Nordic Ware pans and I have several of them.

This is one of the easiest pans from Nordic Ware I have ever used, aside from the Bundt pans. The Platinum series is definitely superior, in my humble opinion, to the lighter weight, predecessor line with Teflon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cake pictured NOT baked from Nordicware pan!..
Please let it be known that the cake pictured here is not one baked from the Nordicware pan that this Amazon listing is for. Rather, it appears to be one baked from the highly-sought, out-of-production bee hive cake pan by Martha Stewart. The M. Stewart pan has more of a "rope-like" detail to the hive as pictured here. Definitely grease and flour the pan thoroughly. It inverted completely and with great detail.

As it is constructed by the "sandwich method", with frosting between the two halves, the glaze is needed to hide this area if viewed from the side.

Recipes for cake, frosting, and glaze are included. I always save the labels for these pans as I will never remember the temperature and cook time otherwise.

I would suggest purchasing the little sugar honey bees as well. King Arthur has the bees and ladybugs as well at present.

The Nordicware beehive has smoother ribbing - not as detailed and includes about 3 bees as a part of the cake mold design. The correct photo for the Nordicware beehive pan can be viewed on a number of other Amazon listings for the same product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Pan, November 4, 2008

This review is from: Nordic Ware Platinum Collection Beehive Cake Pan (Kitchen)
The pan I received from an Amazon seller is identical to the pan in the photo and it is every bit as wonderful as I had hoped. I got it in 2 days with standard shipping from a local Amazon seller. It is high quality like all Nordicware for Williams Sonoma pans. Both sides baked evenly without sticking and went together with some frosting in the middle. I used a simple sugar glaze and everyone was very impressed. This pan is detailed enough for a tea with the ladies or a Winnie The Pooh birthday party! Personally I bake in my novely pans for no occassion at all and I love serving dessert with this one.

The pan itself is adorable and easy to use. The recipe that came with it however is a different story....yuck! I found another recipe online that was delicious! If they could improve the recipe on that comes with the pan, it would be 5 star!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beehive cake pan review, May 23, 2009
This review is from: Nordic Ware Platinum Collection Beehive Cake Pan (Kitchen)
I am very happy so far with my purchase. The first cake I made turned out beautifully and it wasn't too hard to clean; crevices always make it harder, and it didn't stick to the pan. I saw more pans I would like to have and when funds are available, would like to order more.

4.0 out of 5 stars bee hive cake mold, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Nordic Ware Platinum Collection Beehive Cake Pan (Kitchen)
It was exactly what I wanted. I had seen it in a catalog for $42, but this was much less. Unfortunately I later found it on clearance at Willams Sonoma for $14.99.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cake pan!, January 13, 2012

This review is from: Nordic Ware Platinum Collection Beehive Cake Pan (Kitchen)
I purchased this pan for my daughter's bee themed birthday party. This cake pan is wonderful. It makes it easy to create a cake that looks professional without spending hours on it. The pan is sturdy but not too heavy. The cake inverts very well if you grease and flour the pan properly - a few times I had the bees come out a little flaky if I used too much butter or not enough flour, so I started using Baker's Joy spray with it and have had no problems with the details coming out perfectly. The recipe that comes with the cake tastes like a pound cake and it's very good. It creates more detail on the cake than a box mix does. Although, I found that using the recipe on the label makes 2 halves that do not quite bake up to fill the hives all the way - about 1/2 cup more batter on each half would be good. So I made two batches of the cake batter and filled the pan a little more then used the rest to make small bundt cakes. When I use a box mix I like to use a butter cake mix. I will use two boxes and fill the hive halves and have leftovers for cupcakes. One box mix is not enough to fill both halves! I did not use the recipe on the label for the frosting in the middle, but it is a traditional buttercream that I have since used for other cakes (it's tasty!). I used a canned lemon frosting for convenience and the taste went well with the cake and glaze. The glaze recipe is easy but you have to make it thick so it will not run down the cake and pool too much on the sides. It looks best when it is very thick. I didn't make the royal icing bees with the recipe that came on the label, although it seemed simple enough. Instead I piped candy melt bees onto waxed paper and then attached them with more melts.

The only problem I had was making sure to balance the pan well on the oven rack. Since the bottom of the pan isn't flat, you have to be careful or it will tip. It's easy to get it to stay flat, but you can't just slide it in - you have to pull out the rack and make sure you set it down where the rack supports it in the right places.

Overall I was extremely pleased and my daughter thought it was great. She decided to sprinkle yellow sugar over the glaze and it made the cake look really cute.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beehive cake pan, September 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nordic Ware Platinum Collection Beehive Cake Pan (Kitchen)
This is a nice, sturdy pan without weighing 10 pounds like the older Nordic Ware sometimes did. I recommend the cake recipe included with the pan; it was not overly sweet, and the touch of honey was discernible, making the cake something a bit unusual. I don't recommend the icing they suggest for drizzling over the top. It is white, and next time I will experiment a bit and see if I can't come up with something a bit "drippier" and a bit more like the color of honey. I didn't make the bees, but the instructions appeared to be easy to follow. Note: If you decide to make a cake other than the one suggested, I highly recommend that it be a pound cake or some kind of dense cake; I don't think a regular cake would stand up to the handling, or if you could even get it out of the pan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute and easy to use, July 29, 2011

This review is from: Nordic Ware Platinum Collection Beehive Cake Pan (Kitchen)
I am not much of a baker, but bought this for my baby's first birthday. I did a trial run of the cake and it came out flat and stuck to the pan, but then I discovered my baking powder was VERY out of date. Oops. Also, I had only used regular Pam instead of Baker's Joy to coat the pan with. Once I bought new baking powder and coated the pan well with Baker's Joy it came out pretty well. The only negative is that it was hard to get the middle cooked well enough without the outside shell burning (and that took about 15 minutes longer than the recipe indicated). As it was, I had to scoop out the uncooked middle of the cake and fill it with an obscene amount of icing to keep it together. It was yummy icing, though, so I didn't mind too much.
