Product Description

Why a NordicTrack Skier !

Aerobic #1

Endurance #1

Strength #2

Flexibility #2

Coordination #2

20 Years later, THIS IS STILL THE HIGHEST RATED FITNESS EQUIPMENT

Compare to a Treadmill:

Treadmills are the 'catch all' for the fitness novice. But they are not low impact as many assume. Does the pavement come at you as you walk ? Have you watched - seen and heard people 'pound' their lives away on a treadmill ? Each step a tremendous jolt compared to ordinary walking which has enough impact on the joints without the added stress. Compare to 'NordicWalking or Skiing - you never lift your feet. Experience a Smooth - Rhythmic motion as wood skis glide gently on rubber rollers which - on a finely tuned skier - 'white-noise' therapeutic sound. Start NordicWalking / Skiing - ultimately will want to experience 'total freedom of motion' with an upper and lower body workout. The World's Best Aerobic Exerciser.

Compare to Elliptical:

Ellipticals are much more restrictive and have a shorter range of motion. They are often 'jerky - and have a 'punching' motion you want a free flowing - extended full range of motion and the smoothness of a NordicTrack. NordicTrack Skiers will also aid in achieving 'balance and coordination'. It's easy to learn and best of all - anyone can do it !

Im around 60 so cant run like I used to and gave up the bike too.
You can get more cardio-vascular exercise on a skier in 20 mins
than an hour on a bike, because you use your whole body from your
toes to your shoulders. Because it is non-impact you can jump on
it first thing in the morning, (even before yoga) even if cold stiff
and sore, and viola, 20 mins later you are a new person.
It has a bar to grab if you want to start out just power walking
to warm up. Also its a great pick you up in the afternoon if you get the blases.
One trick is to use your arms to resist each other: you are
pulling with one arm and pushing backwards with the other.
Also if you elevate the front your legs get more of a workout on the return stroke.
As far as I know, the Achiever is the only model that has a knob to adjust the leg
resistance instead of a strap you slide up and down. That makes is much easier
to dial in the exact resistance you want as you move through the workout
I keep mine inside but usually roll it outside for fresh air.
Finally, I made a bunch of cassetteswith mostly fast, upbeat music
(mostly bluegrass and gospel) and that makes
the time fly and puts a smile on your face.Nordic Track Aerobic Cross Trainer

This is an excellent workout. I have worn out several of these NordicTrack ski machines - it takes me about 6 years of use then they are pretty much shot. You can replace the critical parts but the better way is to find a used one in excellent condition that was built in Minnesota when they first came out. The later units made in Asia are built to the same drawings but you will quickly discover the quality is not the same. The workout is about 7 - 14 METS depending on how you set up the upper body and tension on the skis. Not everyone finds it easy to use - unless you have a fairly good sense of balance it can be awkward.

Go and buy an old one on EBay, but the new ones are trash. I have had to cannibalize my original unit to get my new unit to work. They don't do a quality check before they are shipped, and they re-engineered it so they it no longer emulates cross-country skiing. It's now just a big disappointment.

You will notice that all of the rave reviews of this product come from long-time owners of the Skier. I bought my first unit in 1993. That machine was wonderful! The new machines, however, are sadly lacking in quality.

I had to replace it my old unit, because the odometer, calorie counter and heart rate monitor died. I was going to buy just a replacement piece, but it would not have fit, so I bought a new one. Big mistake.

When I opened the box, I quickly discovered that one one the rollers, under the skis, was installed backwards. Nobody did a quality check. I only knew exactly what was wrong by comparing it to my old model. I had to wait for a repairman to make a house all to fix it. He did not know what was wrong until I showed him the old model. He told me that people just aren't buying these anymore.

Once that was completed, I noticed that a ski was warped. I had to call to get a replacement sent.

When that came, I finally was able to try it out. I discovered that the black spool, holding the rope, jammed as it turned with normal use. Why? I discovered the answer by looking at my old one. The old one had a sturdy piece of leather under it, the consistency of the leather of a brand new baseball glove. The new one had a flimsy cloth like piece of leather that kept getting caught and jammed.

I cannibalized my old one to get it to turn right. Then the rope started to catch in the rollers on the very top. I discovered why.

Verified Purchase
I'm lazy about writing reviews and I do rely on them a lot when purchasing items, so I had such a good experience purchasing from this seller that I thought I'd better write a review.

I loved my old Nordic Track skier and used it to lose all of my baby weight after my first pregnancy, but then stored it in a hot garage for 5+ years when I started running.

After having three more babies I simply don't have time to run and wanted something to exercise on that's low impact. My old Nordic Track was warped from storing in a garage in 110+ degree summers. I was looking at purchasing a new one as I noticed Nordic Track is making these again, but read that they are now made in China and much inferior to my original skier that I purchased in the 90's.

I was hesitant to spend this much on a "used" skier, but after communicating w/Nordic Danny several times, I felt comfortable. He was very responsive to all of my questions. I ordered the skier and it literally came within a few days. It was exceptionally packaged (the box even had handles making it easier for Fed Ex and me to move).

I absolutely LOVE my skier! It's quiet, not clunky, and sturdy. My fears of spending this much on a "used" skier were put to rest immediately as this machine is better than new.

Thank you!

I purchased the NordicTrack years ago and I still have it in outstanding working condition. I would give it a review of 5, however, I seem to be the only one of four in my household capable of using the NordicTrack to it's fullest extent. Meaning, my 3 other family members do not have the coordination to 'ski' and 'perform hand movements' at the same time. Good for cardio.
