Great workout!,

This is an excellent workout. I have worn out several of these NordicTrack ski machines - it takes me about 6 years of use then they are pretty much shot. You can replace the critical parts but the better way is to find a used one in excellent condition that was built in Minnesota when they first came out. The later units made in Asia are built to the same drawings but you will quickly discover the quality is not the same. The workout is about 7 - 14 METS depending on how you set up the upper body and tension on the skis. Not everyone finds it easy to use - unless you have a fairly good sense of balance it can be awkward.

Great workout in your house or yard.,

Im around 60 so cant run like I used to and gave up the bike too.You can get more cardio-vascular exercise on a skier in 20 mins than an hour on a bike, because you use your whole body from your toes to your shoulders. Because it is non-impact you can jump on it first thing in the morning, (even before yoga) even if cold stiff and sore, and viola, 20 mins later you are a new person. It has a bar to grab if you want to start out just power walking to warm up. Also its a great pick you up in the afternoon if you get the blases. One trick is to use your arms to resist each other: you are pulling with one arm and pushing backwards with the other. Also if you elevate the front your legs get more of a workout on the return stroke. As far as I know, the Achiever is the only model that has a knob to adjust the leg resistance instead of a strap you slide up and down. That makes is much easier to dial in the exact resistance you want as you move through the workout I keep mine inside but usually roll it outside for fresh air. Finally, I made a bunch of cassetteswith mostly fast, upbeat music (mostly bluegrass and gospel) and that makes the time fly and puts a smile on your face.Nordic Track Aerobic Cross Trainer

Great Workout,

I purchased the NordicTrack years ago and I still have it in outstanding working condition. I would give it a review of 5, however, I seem to be the only one of four in my household capable of using the NordicTrack to it's fullest extent. Meaning, my 3 other family members do not have the coordination to 'ski' and 'perform hand movements' at the same time. Good for cardio.

Although I had reservations about this purchase, the machine arrived in excellent condition,(although the packaging was fairly well "beat up") and it functioned as advertised. Now this machine is not for everyone as you need to balance yourself as if you were really skiing but it gives one heck of a workout.

Greatest overall exercise machine,

I have had one of these machines ever since 1996 and use it everyday no matter what. It has it's drawbacks-the bearings on the rollers that support the skis and give the resistance tend to get noisy and replacements are about $55.00 a pair reconditioned. The skis themselves, since they are made of wood, warp over time no matter what you do and there are no replacements available as new. There are several people selling skis but they are used and it is hit or miss if they aren't warped but overall, it is an excellent machine. I am 64 and have been using it for the past almost 16 years.!!!The newer ones are from China even though the company ICO fitness is based here int he U.S>

Next Best Thing to a Treadmill.,
By
This review is from: NordicTrack Pro Skier Ski Machine (Misc.)
I bought my NordicTrack Pro in 1993. My first preference would have been a treadmill, but due to the cost and size of one, I bought this machine. It is the next best thing, and have I gotten my money's worth out of it! It still looks new. The best advantage is I fold it up after each use and put it away in an extra bedroom. While I exercise, I watch TV and get caught up on my recorded programs. Time flies by! I am the only one in our household that has used it all these years. Our three daughters preferred workouts at health clubs or jogging. My husband tried it once, but didn't like it. I still love it. It's especially handy during winter months. I don't have to go anywhere else to get a good workout.

This machine is dangerous!,
By Susie "Bookworm" (Florida United States) - See all my reviews

This machine is dangerous. The design is not appropriate for safety; take a close look at the foot grips and shoe caps. You need to have exceptional coordination and balance to properly function this safety hazard. Simply, if you want to get injured exercising, use this machine!
