5.0 out of 5 stars follow the rules and you shall be rewarded
Wow! Magnificent waffles (and I've tasted my share) first time off the volley. How, you may ask, those 1-2 star reviewers? Oil the waffler lightly before the pre-heat. They're right, there is NO such thing as a completely stick-free waffler out there. And for those of you in love with teflon, good luck achieving the light crisp crunch exterior that yields to a light...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nordic Belgium Waffler
The new Nordic Belgium Wafflers are not the same high quality as previous models. Previous models include a temperature gauge and bake higher quality waffles. The new waffler does not hold the waffles to the outside surface until baked and the waffles end out collapsed and heavy. I used the older model at the same time with the same batter at similar temperatures and the...

Wow! Magnificent waffles (and I've tasted my share) first time off the volley. How, you may ask, those 1-2 star reviewers? Oil the waffler lightly before the pre-heat. They're right, there is NO such thing as a completely stick-free waffler out there. And for those of you in love with teflon, good luck achieving the light crisp crunch exterior that yields to a light fluffy interior possible with this waffler. Waffle afficionados told me I had to find an old non-teflon waffler on e-bay or at a flea market. Imagine my surprise to run into this at a nearby kitchen supply store. Good thing I had not read the Amazon reviews, I might have been scared off. So make their suggested batter, lightly oil, pre-heat, pour batter and 3 minutes later--the BEST waffles out there. Merci, NordicWare.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Non-electric Waffle Iron You'll Ever Need, March 24, 2008

I purchased this waffle iron four years ago.

And, I went through quite a few batches of waffle batter until I could heat the iron on the stove properly.

But, after a while I was making the tastiest waffles on the block.

Once I got the hang of using this waffler, I got rid of my electric
waffle iron!

I end with one word of advice. Please be sure to grease this waffle iron before you pour the batter on the grids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than electric, May 7, 2005
By
I have baked waffles in this pan for about 30 years. It still bakes the biggest most beautiful Belgian waffles in the world in four minutes! I am looking for a second one so I can make two at a time. Preheat about 2 minutes on each side. Flip the griddle quickly after pouring batter onto the hottest side. Bake 2 minutes on each side. Mine has a temperature gauge in the handle, which I love. I am trying to find that model, but it may not exist any more.

This has a non-stick surface, and I was specifically looking for one that didn't, so beware if you are looking for a metal surface and not non-stick.

The waffle maker has non-stick coating on cast aluminum. I am surprised to see this is not mention before.

I don't have a lot of experience with waffle irons, but was fed up with the $9.99 plastic Wal-Mart model that stuck consistently.
The unit arrived, and I whipped up a batch of Hungry Jack Blueberry Wheat mix, with no added oil. I sprayed Canola oil in the iron, picked a medium flame on the gas burner, preheated it 3 min. on both sides, poured in just over a cup of mix, left it on the hot (bottom) side for 45 sec, and turned it over until it stopped steaming, about 2-1/2 min.
The waffle was perfect, and delicious. It came out without a hitch. I sprayed again, and did another waffle as easily.
I would imagine that the heating and baking process needs to be the center of attention in the kitchen, so that the recommended times are adhered to fairly closely, in that a gas flame is a lot hotter ( and therefore less forgiving ) than an electric iron. Proper care being taken, you will be in for a great waffle !

4.0 out of 5 stars No thermo!, January 9, 2007

This purchase was for a gift. I've owned and enjoyed a Nordic Ware Belgian Waffler for several years. I was dismayed to find that they've removed the two thermometers from the unit. They were integral to the ease of use. Too bad, I would've given it 5 stars otherwise. They still are a great unit though and the best bet for compact storage needs - no bulk at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, crispy, light, belgian waffles!, December 18, 2009
This review is from: NordicWare 15040 Cast Aluminum Stovetop Belgium Waffle Iron (Kitchen)
I washed the waffler with hot, soapy water, dried it, and placed it on the stovetop to preheat. Once it was hot, I brushed shortening on the inside, followed up with some nonstick cooking spray, and started cooking waffles. Finally, I produced a crispy, light belgian waffle, soft on the inside. I am so delighted. I prefer the texture of these waffles, verses the Cuisinart WAF-6 waffle maker, which I also have. I'll bring out the Cuisinart for guest use, no one's using my Nordic Ware Stovetop Belgian Waffler! The older model with the temperature gauges are still available online, I bought two, and they are used weekly. I freeze the leftovers, and we reheat them in the toaster for a quick breakfast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twenty years and still waffling:), April 10, 2008
This review is from: NordicWare 15040 Cast Aluminum Stovetop Belgium Waffle Iron (Kitchen)
I've had this waffle iron for twenty years, and it still makes excellent waffles -- what electric appliance could do that? This was the best cookware investment I have ever made.
