This was definitely the book for me. I love shoes, clothing and dressing to impress. There's fashion, and then there's STYLE. I believe that dressing with STYLE is the way to dress to impress. STYLE is not about wearing the latest fashions; it's more about knowing how to coordinate colors and patterns, proper fit, and what and how to make clothes look good on Y-O-U. This book is for the man who has STYLE. I spend lots of time on the internet, in men's stores, and in men's departments of major department stores looking at clothing and shoes, and reading about STYLE and fashion. This book is the most comprehensive collection of usable information on men's STYLE that I have found. I trust it because it comes from Nordstrom, the quintessential customer service company (read the "Nordstrom Way: The Inside Story of America's #1 Customer Service Company"). Believe me, I have no affiliation with Nordstrom other than being a big fan since a friend of mine turned me on to them in the early 90's. I've been hooked every since then. This book is a reasonable reflection of Nordstrom.
However, it's not all good. Since Nordstrom's roots are in shoes (and they sale lots of really fine shoes), I was really shocked and disappointed that they didn't go into more detail about shoes (colors, coordination, types, quality, etc.) Overall, this is still a really good book.

This is the ultimate fashion guide for guys, whether you're a conflicted hero, a rogue protector, or just the average up-and-coming Sci Fi novelist. It's a little pricey for sure, but worth it. From Emanuel Gray to Timberwolf Velez, everyone who is anyone in this galaxy, or the next, must get their fashion flair from this authoritative esthetic tome. Well done Tom Julian. We are all very proud of you.

Best of the men;s style books. The photos and classification of style guidelines by classic, contemporary, trendy, etc. helped immensely. Good solid advice. A bit of an advertisement for Nordstrom;s as you would expect, but not onerously so.

i personally prefer the "details men's style manual" book. Although, I don't think this is a bad book at all. I am a novice as far as dressing appropriately for the right occasion. The book can do a little more work as far as accessories are concerned..ie. watches, shoes, jeans, casual shirts...etc. but it has good information as far as suits, neckwear, and sports coats are concerned. I don't have a white collar job but I like to wear suits every now and then.

Bought this thinking it would have great classical style tips. The book seems more of a fashion book not a style book. Some styles are time sensitive. Looks like a nordstrom catalog with fashion tips. I would not recommend this book and would refer prospective consumers to purchase GENTLEMAN: A TIMELESS GUIDE TO FASHION.

This little book bursts with helpful information for all men of all ages in terms of looking their best; be it "formal" or Saturday morning at the farmers' market casual.
Written in easy to understand terms, with loads of helpful illustrations, there's NO EXCUSE for a guy not to look his best and find his most comfortable style.
A great gift, a great dressing room resource, an all around "must have".
Wish the author would tackle women next.....I'd be first in line for that one!

I feel like shouting from the rooftops, "this is NOT the same old book on men's style with countless references to days of yore that, while sartorially correct, have very little to do with how men should and want to dress today." If I'm into dressing and looking good, then I kind of have to think everyone else is. Maybe it's partly in response to the current economic climate, or just that guys are much easier with dressing themselves and need to make the right impression. It's survival of the fittest out there. I am so happy I purchased this book. I like the way it's written and it tells me things I need to know and will actually do.

This book is good for a beginner. You figure out your style according to four models and can see advice for suits, ties, shirts, socks, and shoes. Advice for style spans from formal to semi-formal. I picked this book up while waiting for a friend at Nordstroms and had to have my own, Amazon-priced copy for help buying nice clothing and dressing like a pro. The appendix also shows how to tie ties, bow ties, and lays out accessories.
