Just like most of you, I have gone through my share of shavers and have even resorted to the "blade & cream" phase every now and then. Well, I'm here to tell you with all my confidence that your search is over. The Norelco 7845 (or probably any other Norelco Quadra Action shaver) is superb.

Pros: This shaver provides specifically what you are looking for... a hassle-free, quick, close shave. I get a nice, consistent close shave on my entire face. I've gone through other shavers (as you've already read) and this is by far the best. I'll be selling my (ever popular) Braun 7526 because it misses two areas on my neck (leaving an oddball patch of hair). I've had other floating-head (or rotary blade... I don't know the official term) that have conked-out on me or have been torturous to use... sometimes feeling like it was yanking hair off my face. I've used this shaver after skipping a few days and it works like a charm. Charges quickly. Holds a good/strong charge... I took this shaver to Mexico City for 10 days with excellent results. Replacement blades are easy to find... I'm not sure what another reviewer was complaining about but the replacement blades are everywhere (online and at all the department stores). And the price is right... especially when you compare it to all the shavers in its class.

Cons: Okay... the beard trimmer is a bit basic. I will not go so far as to say it is clumsy or cheap. I have a goatee (sp?) and it works fine for me. I 'do' have a separate beard trimmer I use for that once a month I trim-down my beard.

I've been using this razor for about 6 weeks now. It is the best I have ever used! It shaves at least as good as most blades I've used (although I rarely use a blade) and far better than the old Norelco I was using. I had to replace my 8 year old Norelco because the battery would no longer hold a charge for more than a day. It was a great razor and I hated to see it go. I usually shave twice a day and it did what I thought was a great job. When I saw the 7845 I really was just thinking the different cutting surfaces on this one were probably just a marketing ploy. I was wrong. I almost bought a cheaper version because of this. Hey a razor's a razor, right? I'm glad I didn't. This razor gives a great close shave and the battery lasts for weeks. The shave is really incredible. You almost have to experience it to appreciate it. I never thought I'd get this kind of shave from an electric. I've only had to charge it once in six weeks. And it let's you know when it needs recharged.

The best thing, besides the great shave, is that you clean it by rinsing it off. Just open it up under the faucet. Hey, I hardly ever cleaned my old one. That was a pain. But I can rinse something off every couple of days! Great shaver, no effort to maintain. 5 stars!

I used a Norelco for years, and less than a year ago I bought a Remington. It was awful and after only 9 months I got this razor.What a dream. I will stay with Norelco from now on (no more Remingtons).

This razor is smooth on the face and neck, and gives me a great shave that lasts all day. It is also easy to clean. Buy it!

I purchased the 7845XL razor in March 04. I have used it almost everyday since (now June 04). I get a close shave, much better than from my old school electric razor. The floating heads contour really well to my face, and I have experienced very little discomfort in shaving. The pop-up trimmer is handy too. It is amazing how long the battery lasts between charges. I estimate I get about 18 days between charges. There is an indicator on the handle that will signal a charge is needed. Cleaning the blades as described in the owner's manual is a good idea. Why did I pick this razor? It was in my price range. A friend at work liked his Norelco. The color was acceptable. At the time of purchase, there was a special offer that was appealing to me.

The 7825XL, 7845XL, 7865XL and 7885XL models are all basically the same razor, differing only in the way they display battery/charging status (anywhere from 1 LED to a complete tiny LCD display). The shaving peformance is fine for me -- not as close as a wet shave but that's a good thing for me personally because the closeness of wet shaves makes my face break out. Every 3-7 years I buy a new Norelco and they get incrementally better each time.

I'm writing to warn about one feature. Every shaver I'd had up to this one had a physical slider switch to turn it on and off. This models has a push button. This means you can't tell BY TOUCH whether it's on or off. This is critical for me because I usually shave in the car (sitting in traffic) with the stereo blaring and I can't hear the shaver (especially since the newer models are pretty quiet). I turn it on and off a lot as traffic conditions change.

Further, when the battery is low, my previous shavers would just run slower and slower until they came to a gradual stop. This one slows slightly (imperceptably to me, really) and then just "falls off the cliff" and stops cold. So you don't get any warning really that it's about to run out -- if I knew it was running down, then I'd shave a lot faster!

And this is where the tactile power switch feedback is important: if the battery's totally drained, but I'm not done yet, I'll leave it off for a minute and then turn it on for 5-10 seconds of shaving before it dies again. With the push-button power control this is really confusing because you're never really sure what's on and off. It turns out the the power button is like a pulse that gets sent to an internal microcontroller (I'm guessing), so after it's been off for a while the power "position" doesn't matter, it's really off. You just push to reboot the thing.

So, my 7825XL was robbed out of my car last night and I'm buying another one of these, so I guess that's an endorsement. But I'm bumping up to the next higher model with better battery status indication ...

I can't believe how long this holds a charge. I've shaved everyday with it for about a month and haven't had to charge it but the first time. The shave is close and smooth. Very worth it.

I just received my Norelco 7845XL. I can't believe how close this shaves. THROW AWAY THE BRAUNS AND ANY OTHER FOIL SHAVERS!

I started shaving with a Norelco. The 710RL was my first and it must have lasted for ten years when it finally stopped. Then I heard how much closer the Braun foil shaved. It did! But it was slower to cover all the areas of your face. Well, I've had three within the last five years upgrading each time. My last the 3612 just went haywire and stopped charging. I should of known better. It's made in China.

I have been hesitant about purchasing an electric shaver, but I finally took the plunge on this one and have been very impressed. The unit is good to hold in your hands, it cuts without plucking, and contours to the face very well. I can shave everyday with little / no irritation (granted this is only day 2) - as opposed to a blade that I can only handle every other day. It cleans easily. You will have to experiment a little bit with direction and motion to make sure you get all the hair on your neck / chin. Take the same time as shaving with a blade, if not less, and provider equivalent shave.

Best cordless shaver I have ever owned. I always bought Remingtons before. You can tell the difference as soon as you pick it up. The Hummer of shavers.
