Product Description

Norfolk Island Pines, Araucaria heterophylla, are native of Norfolk Island (somewhere between New Caledonia and Australia in the South Pacific). Although they may reach a height of 80 feet in their natural habitat, they will maintain a reasonable size when grown in a container, in the home. The beauty and symmetry of the plant, as well as the soft texture of the foliage will make you want to decorate it, and use it for your living Christmas tree.

The Norfolk Island Pine is a great house plant. It prefers full sun or very, bright, indirect light. Water when the soil is on the dry side.

The Norfolk Island Pine also makes an excellent bonsai!

I purchased this to add a touch of green to my daughters room for the holidays. If you aren't familiar with Norfolk Pines you will find it is just that...a 'touch' of green. The picture makes it appear larger than it is. It is a scant 9" tall and was too small and fragile to support even the tiniest of ornaments. However, it is cute as can be so I hope with some TLC and time it will be a good little Christmas tree for her room.

Usually, when you order plants online, you can expect (at least 50% of the time) the plant will be of low quality or will not survive mailing. I got this plant and opened the box. It was reasonably well-packed. It contained a small warmpack that keeps the plant from getting too cold in the mail. As I pulled the plant out of the box, I was amazed to see this lush, full tree emerge from packing peanuts. It is so much bigger and healthier than I imagined. I will definitely consider buying from this seller again and again if this is the quality I can expect with all their potted plants. I am an avid houseplant and gardening girl and I was not expecting such a lovely plant. I look forward to becoming even more of a "crazy plant lady" as I call it, with such awesome specimens as this. :)

I ordered 3 of these little guys because I couldn't find any locally. They arrived quickly and I've managed to keep them alive. I killed my other ones because I was actually overwatering. I just water them occasionally and they are doing well. The are soooooo cute. Definitely a good product, though the price was a little high as I was able to eventually get them locally for half the price.

I ordered two plants about six months ago. Shipping packaging was great, plants arrived healthy, and they looked just like the photo. Each plant had 10-12 trunks in the planter. When I repotted them, I was able to separate a few single trunks and plant them on their own (this takes extreme care to avoid damaging the intertwined roots). Now I have over a dozen Norfolk Pines thriving from that original order of two.

This would be a 5-star review, however, both the plants had remnants of Christmas decorations on them. Hirt's offers regular undecorated trees and trees that have already been decorated for Christmas. My undecorated trees arrived with small green pipe cleaners twisted on many branches as well as a lot of silver glitter everywhere. It appeared that trees were previously decorated and then these decorations were removed when the Christmas season was over (although not very well).

Overall, this is a great source for Norfolk Pines. It's much better than a single trunk since you can divide the plant (or just cut away every trunk except the strongest). Hirt's provides some of the healthiest plants I've ordered online and I will continue to order from them.
