I installed the NRC98 after a Bosch AquaStar 125 Tankless unit began to leak after 13 years. BTW, I loved the Bosch unit. It had just reached it's end of life and we wanted a unit with a higher capacity than the Bosch.

If your thinking about going tankless, remember that there is no thermal expansion in the lines like you have with a tanked unit. What this means is that, depending on the length of the pipe run from your heater to your farthest faucet, you may have to wait longer than what you are used to (for hot water) with a tankless unit.

You can eliminate this by installing the tankless units with a Bosch Ariston Point of use hot water tank (4 or 6 gallons-On Amazon: Bosch GL4 Ariston 4-Gallon Point-of-Use Indoor Electric Mini-Tank Water Heater) in front of the tankless unit's hot water line and using a Watts/Grundofos water recirculation pump. (Look on Amazon for: Watts 500800 Premier Hot Water Recirculation Pump, Blue) The Bosch units are specifically made for use with a tankless unit for this purpose. With this type of setup you will have the small tank unit provide hot water instantly to all of your faucets when you wash your hands (because the tankless units require 0.50 gallon flow per minute to trigger the heating cycle) The Watts/Grundofos units only use 25 watts and will not create enough of a flow to trigger the tankless unit. When the tankless unit triggers (for a few minutes when you wash your hands) the water from the hot side flows into the Ariston unit. We used the 4 gallon Ariston for a 1400 sq foot house. I would say to use the 6 gallon unit if you go over 2000 sq feet of house or if you have 3 showers or more or longer runs of pipe to keep hot with the Watts/Grundofos units.

I installed this unit on 1/15/2014. Compared to the Bosch AE125 it has replaced, the performance is great. I am in Kansas City area. Incoming cold water is around 50F over last few days. Heater has allowed two showers at once. The Bosch would give a single shower tepid water if someone washed their hands or started the dishwasher. Very pleased so far.

I replaced a tank type water heater with the Noritz tank-less unit. The old water heater was supposed to be a high efficiency unit. It ran out of hot water all the time and was really inefficient.

The new Noritz NRC98-DV-NG unit lets us take long showers or fill the bath tub without ever running out of hot water. Installation was not something I have done before but was able to do it myself. I have heard of some tank-less units being very unpredictable where people report getting either hot or cold water. This Noritz unit lets me adjust the water mix however I desire it.

I probably will add a solar water preheating unit on my roof to even get higher efficiency.

The unit is much better than the one that it replaced. 1st, it has a lower threshold on when it turns on which allows a better control of things like shower tempurature. The only thing that I was not thrilled with was the output that is advertized to be used to drive a re-circulation pump. When I called the manufacturer to get some details on how it worked, the person at the company said "we realy don't recommend using that feature."
