Excellent paediatric reference for parents.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Normal Child: Some Problems of the Early Years and Their Treatment (Paperback)
Although intended as a text for paediatric students, the approach and style make this book equally useful for parents who are unafraid of occasional medical terminology. It contains much practical advice on handling the normal problems of infancy and childhood. Parental attitude and behaviour is recognized and discussed, particularly those patterns which reinforce problems. "Normal" does not mean average, but covers a broad range of behaviours and characteristics which are delineated quite well. Chapters are devoted to infant feeding (breast, formula, weaning) and physiology, twins, physical and mental development from the first days to teenage, childhood hazards (disease, accident), and especially to behavioral patterns (wetting, tantrums, anorexia, etc.) and how to help children reach their full potential. My wife and I scoured many large selections of alleged parenting books, and found them wanting - all were to some extent simplistic or irrelevant. "The Normal Child", however, provides more and better practical information than any parenting book we encountered, and in a matter of fact style
