5.0 out of 5 stars Unique artist May 30, 2009
Artists who can move you - whether to tears, laughter or simply awareness - are rare, in my experience. Artists who can do so in more than one medium are rare, precious and beautiful. Sarah Atlee is one of those. She can write as well as she illustrates, illustrate as well as she writes. Maybe I should just say that she illustrates life - life that she has created but that at the same time is one of our neighbors, or our crazy uncle or aunt or friend. Sometimes when we peer "through the looking glass" we see most clearly, and Sarah is a master at helping us to do so. A thoroughly enjoyable book, one that I've recommended to all my friends, one that I keep going back to, and one that pleases every time I do so.

4.0 out of 5 stars Imaginings on the Hiway May 29, 2009
Signs on the interstate often announce the towns accessed via the next offramp. Traveling on Highway 89 in Utah, one can imagine white letters on a green background announcing the turnoff to Salina/Redmond. In this clever and wry new book, artist Sarah Atlee employs the driver's diversion of imagining that the sign is announcing a real person: Salina Redmond. She has used the signs found on Oklahoma highways to create a populated world of fascinating characters living in the town of Normal.

Her award-winning artistic skills have brought forth bizarre caricatures and word descriptions of folks who may be as familiar as your next-door neighbor, or as looney as the hermit at the edge of town. An outgrowth of a major art project that has been a touring exhibition, this book not only entertains, but serves as an introduction to a talented and inspired artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Normal Oklahoma May 28, 2009
If you weren't brung up in Oklahoma this book might make no sense in reality, but the art work is still to be admired.

The Author, Sarah Atlee, has taken the little noticed, if even seen, signs and have given them a life of real people. She has imagined and illustrated these Real People (because there are Real People who live there) and manufactured Real illustrations of these people, along with her imagined stories.

Even if you've neve been to Oklahoma, it would be the same in any state or country anywhere in the US or the World. The illustrations are only a nice touch considering the stories of the Individuals.
