It is really about time this was released on DVD. The quality etc is just as expected from my old VHS and the old audio CD. It is always great seeing Joe Pass play, he was the best.
Bad news. For some reason you can get this same DVD at amazon.uk and it has Live in Montreaux 1977 as well. I bought it several months ago. You would need an all region player, but at least you get those amazing solo blues Joe did on that date. Most cats don't know that many of the >$25 DVD players (polaroid at Circuit City) are all region. Being Chinese made, they just want to make sure their product works and sells, they are region free! Who knows, maybe they will release the 77 date with extras, but I doubt it.

If you are a fan of Joe Pass, or of jazz guitar in general, this is a must have DVD. Aside from a couple of minor audio glitches this just a superb performance. Guitarists will appreciate the amount of time focused on Joe's hands on the fingerboard. You can watch him do his thing and pick off goodies for a long time from this video. A lot of music at the highest level for cheap money. Buy it and enjoy it.

This was one of two Pass items I purchased for a gift. The recipient liked jazz and he LOVED this item.

What a great deal on this DVD. It was very cheap for a brand new item. And what can I say about Joe Pass. He is one of the greatest Jazz guitarists.

This is a great DVD featuring one of finest jazz Guitarists who ever lived. Playing solo Joe Pass sometimes demonstrates the impossible seeming to keep rhythm, solo lines and chordal work all going at the same time. Of course he doesn't but he is so good that sometimes your brain thinks he does!
This is all superb, but as a previous reviewer has mentioned the version available on region 2 has tracks from the 1977 Montreux concert. It still shouldn't deter you from buying this DVD but if you have a multi-region player the region 2 disc is the better choice.

I've loved this music since it was first released on Pablo. Watching Joe play it is a treat I never thought I'd have. A must-have for jazz guitar fans.

To me, Joe was always best when he just sat down and played by himself - and this is 2 sets of just that, from the 70's. He sounds wonderful, as usual. There is just a little funny sound in a couple of spots, from old analog tapes, but good overall. A little entertainment when the amp reverb starts banging around on one tune - some funny looks and smiles to the audience from Joe - but they get it fixed. All in all, classic Joe Pass solo playing.

I was at odds with playing jazz guitar and jazz saxophone. I didn't know which one to focus most of my attention to. After watching this inspirational DVD of Joe Pass' talent, I looked up every five star jazz guitar book to help me play like this guy. I may never get to Joe Pass' level, but I'll have fun trying. I made my decision after watching ten minutes of Joe climbing up and down his neck with the tips of his fingers. It was a great performance. So great, the audience members at Montreux asked if he could play again the next day. Lucky for the viewer, Joe was back in his chair jamming away. This DVD is a steal for the price they are selling it for. Go ahead and get it.
