Solo Piano at its best,
By
This review is from: Norman Granz Jazz In Montreux Presents Ray Bryant '77 (DVD)
Ray Bryant is a Jazz pianist heavily influenced by Blues and Gospel so this solo concert from 1977 is a chance to hear him demonstrate this.At this concert he plays: Take The 'A' Train Georgia On My Mind Jungle Town Jubilee If I Can Just Make It Into Heaven Django Blues No. 6 Satin Doll Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child St. Louis Blues Things Ain't What They Used To Be The concert starts with a mainly Boogie Woogie reading of Take the A Train. Bryant manages to incorporate a few other styles briefly, bits of stride and gospel fit in nicely to this exciting performance. A lovely reading of Georgia follows which shows the mellower laid back side of Bryant's playing. In truth he's capable of playing most styles and perhaps demonstrates this to best effect on a great version of Satin Doll. Anybody interested in Jazz Piano will enjoy this DVD.

Great product...love the fact that this concert was preserved for the edification of those of us who are Jazz Music lovers! If you like all different styles of of Jazz Variations, from Boogie Woogie, Modern, Bop and even some fleeting touches of modal Jazz, then you will love this concert. Its a great video and even though you can date the concert by the apparel of the participants and the concert goers...the music is timeless and well worth the appreciation.
