I bought this book along with the Barron's book and the combo of the 2 worked well I think (I ended up with a job where I wanted). The reason I gave this only 4 stars instead of 5 is that I took 3 tests and did not see any mechanical aptitude or math questions as advanced on the tests as some of those in the book. I spent a lot of time memorizing formula's that unless you were a mechanical engineer, I have know idea who would know this stuff off the top of their head (questions regarding force on a certain length lever over a certain distance or others related to force and distance regarding the pitch of a screw). Some of the math too seemed a little advanced for what I saw on the tests. I would suggest buying both books though, because it may give you a happy medium of which to study from. Better to have the info and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I found out the hard way that there are different tests for areas of the country. This book will help you in the Math portion on Southern California Tests

I ordered it because my bf is taking the exam so I hope this book pays for itself! I know the new fdny has been revised but I hope it comes through!

I got this book based on a friends recommendation. So far it has been easy to work with. I hope to take the exam in the beginning of January so we shall see what the results are. The book is very well written.

This really helped me out on my written exam. If I gave myself more time to study, I would've probably got a higher score than I did on my exam, but with this aid I was able to answer almost everything with super confidence. Literally everything that is in this book WAS on the test! Literally. Even down to the math which I needed touching up on.

Highly suggest this book.

I used this preparation book prior to taking my exam for the Anchorage Fire Department. It was a great brush-up for those of you who haven't seen a low level math class in a while. I'm happy to report that after fully utilizing this book I scored very highly on my exam this past winter.

My son needed this to study for his Firefighter exam and it really helped him a lot. This vendor got the book to him in only a couple of days. I would definitely recommend this vendor.
