Great lamp for the price. I put in a 16 watt CFL bulb and it puts out the perfect amount of light for my daughters piano. The lamp looks great and it has a heavy enough base to keep it put while pulling on the chain.

This is a wonderful bankers lamp. I have it in my office and receive nothing but compliments on it. It uses a 60 watt bulb so you have plenty of light to work with. Worth the price, and looks like you paid alot more for it.

After getting this lamp in the mail it was obvious why it was priced so low. Where the plastic covering meets the edges of the lamp's shade there are glue markings. Also there is a metal piece on the top of the shade, which, in my case, isn't even straight. Therefore, since it is so wavy, it doesn't lay flat like it should. The whole thing just looks cheap.

Anyone who doesn't think that this is a good looking lamp that appears to cost far, far more than what they paid here on Amazon must have received something other than what's advertised here. It's VERY good looking, and I'm not easily impressed. I hate junky looking products. That is NOT what this is. It's beautifully designed in every way. The hood swivels in one direction on its axis to direct the light where you want it (more downward or more toward you). The color is very rich looking. And for those who complain about the "plastic hood"... please. The copy doesn't say GLASS, so what do you expect, Bakelite? It doesn't look like plastic. Doesn't feel like it either. My suggestion... if you like the looks of this lamp, ignore the crabby reviewers... order it. Like the vast majority of buyers, you'll be impressed. (If not, returning things from Amazon is crazy easy and convenient.) The only downside is the "Type T E-27" 60-watt" bulbs are not easy to find. I'm not sure if it's ok to use standard 60-watt bulbs in it or not. The ones the mfgr suggests are the long, tube-shaped bulbs. Can't find them on Amazon. Having a hard time Googling them. Lowes doesn't sell them. Strange. Anyone who buys this after me--if you had success in locating them--please post the info where you got them, ok? If I find someplace, I'll update this review.

UPDATE:
I went to Ace Hardware and they had a slew of the bulbs... in both 40 and 60 watt. The 60-watt model is just $4.99! And let me tell you, when it's turned on, it's really very attractive. The color that shines through the shade is beautiful.

Here's the info the that bulb, in case you want to try to find it online: It's the GE Soft White 60-watt T-type. On the package it says: Specialty 91835. Here is the 40-watt version at Staples.com:

Actually this is more per bulb than the [...] singles at Ace Hardware brick and mortar, but this is the REVEAL bulb, whereas the one I bought at Ace is simply the SOFT WHITE (not Reveal).

I checked and it's not on AceHardware.com's site, but the store had both 40 and 60-watt models.

Lowes didn't have them. I would find the nearest Ace Hardware. Or, after trying the 60-watt, I think the 40-watt (available at that Staples link) would be sufficient--at least for me. You might want to check to see if the Staples STORE sells them. And if you still have trouble, I'd call GE Consumer Affairs and ask for that Specialty bulb number I typed above and ask where to get them. They are out there!!!

I got my lamp today and it is beautiful. It looks elegant on my desk and gives off just the right amount of light. I'm very pleased.

the shade is cheap thin plastic with defects. I really got taken on this lamp.

Very strong paint smell while opening the box. The shade is plastic with white glue exposed many places. Did not expect a plastic shade from a "Bankers Lamp". Not worth $40 at all in my opinion.

This lamp is one of those online purchases that makes you very happy when you see it - it actually looks better (but not different) than online. Very good detail on all parts of lamp, has a sturdy feel, and does, like others have said, looks more expensive than it is.

One review said it doesn't give out enough light. I have found this to not be the case. I works great for my desk with no other lights on. Now, the orange/brown top cover does inhibit light from going out the top, but that's to be expected. The goal of this, and all desk lamps (particularly bankers) are to provide light to the DESK and then to simply look nice. The orange/brown glow looks great, and the dark brown/bronze body is a perfect match.

Plus it comes with a 2-year warranty (card in package) which was a pleasant surprise. There is no way you won't like this lamp if you like the picture.

I was looking for a desk lamp for my rolltop desk. The shade pivots so you can illuminate your work area without being blinded. The overall quality is very good. It is a nice looking addition to any desktop. Having a pull chain is a much better option than having to find a switch built into the power cord. It is heavy enough to stay in place. Very satisfied.

Arrived well packaged and promptly. I'm very impressed with this lamp, it's beautiful and lights up my desk perfectly as it's not too bright - nicely muted but just the right amount of light. It's a great accent piece that helps make the room.
