Review
Sir Roger de Montmorency is anxiously awaiting his betrothed, as the wedding guests are assembled and eager to begin the feast. Roger will not wait any longer and he begins the meal. A little later, his intended arrives soaking wet, and as she enters the castle she is a bit put off because no one is there to greet her party. Mina Chilcott musters up all her integrity and marches into the hall where everyone is eating and she takes her place at the table, much to Roger's surprise. Her dripping wet gown is sticking to her well formed body and Roger notices it immediately. Roger and Mina are very much alike; spirited, independent and strong and so they butt heads from the very beginning. Roger learns from Mina's brother that their father starved and whipped her, and he is outraged that any man would treat a woman in such a harsh and cruel way. They are married but she overhears Rogers boasting of his prowess with women. This infuriates Mina and she wants to destroy his manly pride. Mina plans for their wedding night and when Roger enters their bedchamber he kisses her and she experiences new feelings at his touch, but she will prove that she is more clever than he. She drugs Roger and in the morning she allows him to believe that they consummated the marriage, and that he was rough, and hurt her. This greatly upsets Roger since he can't remember what had happened, and he was taught never to hurt women. They argue and Roger leaves in a huff, warning her that he is the master and she best not forget it, or she will rue the day! Roger leaves for awhile, but when he returns, he brings a gift for Mina. Mina and Roger have thought things through, and they want to start all over again, so they start by going to bed. Roger is confused, and Mina confesses her deceit, but this pulls them farther apart than before. Mina turns to Roger's friend Albert for advice but Roger misunderstands the situation; Mina is convinced that Roger is unfaithful and it seems to be a hopelessly tangled mess! Roger comes to realize that he loves Mina while at the same time she realizes that she loves him! But Roger can stand it no more and he tells Mina that she and Albert can leave. Totally affronted by his insinuation, Mina checks her temper and tells Roger the truth, and then she reveals her own insecurities about his philandering ways. Mina wants love and respect, and by showing her vulnerability, she wins her Norman's Heart.Ms. Moore has penned a very romantic historical!
