Great Funnel, Great Buy,

Sometimes you just can't win. I've seen the other reviews whining that the included strainer isn't fine enough to catch all debris in leftover frying oil. Well, if Norpro had made the strainer finer, I'm certain we'd see people complaining that the strainer was too fine! This is a well-made funnel; I've had mine for years. Unlike plastic funnels, which never really feel clean after dealing with grease and oil, this one cruises through the dishwasher w/o problems. I have used the strainer for oil, but it is on the coarse side. However, I find this funnel works great with a Melitta #2 coffee filter, which I use for my small coffeemaker. I don't like using cheesecloth as it's a hassle. I'd suggest going to a coffee filter as an alternative. Additionally, I can pour hot oil after frying at a temp that would damage a plastic funnel.

This funnel is bigger than I expected and for the cost it should have been. It is very nicely made with a very wide mouth and hefty material. It will hold a lot of liquid if you pour too fast but is very well balanced and has not yet tipped on me like other funnels do this is probably due to it's significant weight.

I bought the funnel to put fry oil back in its bottles after each use. It turns out the filter that comes with the funnel is not nearly as fine as I would like for such an application. Otherwise, the funnel is fine. The side handle is useful.

When it arrived I thought to myself that the filter holes look a bit larger than expected. Upon first use the filter is only good for large particles. Grit and bits of things like floured coatings slipped through. I ended up using a couple layers of cheese cloth instead.
One other "nit" to pick. Because of the design, when inserted into a largish container openning, there is little to no room for air to escape so I had to lift the funnela little to let the air out. Laddling 4-5 liters of oil one handed was messy at best. All in all my $2 large plastic funnel and cheese cloth performed better for my needs.

Strainer does not filter particles such as cornmeal. Otherwise, it's a fine item.

This is a useful funnel, solid material and long spout with plenty of room in the upper portion. The filter isn't of much use, but I didn't buy this for the filter, but to pour liquids. I'd recommed using a coffee filter when straining used fryer oil. It will take longer, but the oil will be cleaner.

Handy little gadget when you don't want bits of herbs and spices in your salad dressings or gravies, etc. Its not a "must have" but it is convenient.

If you're looking for an industrial-strength stainless steel strainer, this is about the most rugged one you'll find. My son is a homebrew fan, and he finds this funnel just right for transferring large volumes of the liquids he uses in the brewing process. The fit and finish is flawless, and it looks like it will last forever.

This funnel worked perfectly. I deep fried a turkey for the first time (it was delicious) and was not thrilled at the thought of discarding 3 quarts of oil (costly and wasteful). After allowing the oil to cool, I poured it through the funnel into a large container to freeze and re-use at my leisure. The strainer did so well at removing all the leftover bits of fried food that the used oil was almost the same clear color as an unopened bottle.

Doesn't do the job.,

The strainer is almost impossible to get seated so the oil bypasses, as well as material that needs to be filtered out. The strainer clogs readily and it takes quite a while to even attempt to filter the cooking oil. Very frustrating to use.
