There were cheaper spaetzle makers and there were far more expensive spaetzle makers, but my husband and I choose this one because, by comparing shipping weights in item description, this one seemed sturdier than the super cheap spaetzle makers, yet didn't seem to lack any features of the more expensive spaetzle makers of the same style. Also, it was the same style we had seen and admired one of our favorite celebrity chefs using recently on her cooking show.
When it arrived, we were not disappointed. It was, in fact, quite sturdy. The batter shuttle moved smoothly back and forth, and the little lip on the end opposite the handle fit neatly over the side of the pot so that the maker sat stabilized across the top of the pot. Also, the plastic around the solid stainless steel handle ensured that the handle was both sturdy yet stayed relatively cool to the touch while cooking. For comparison, other cheaper spaetzle makers simply had all plastic handles, which we were concerned would break off too easily.
Unless you are committed to using a different style of spaetzle maker, this is an excellent choice for your kitchen.
