I had previously owned another brand of cookie maker but lost an important piece on it so it no longer worked. I figured it was less of a hassle to replace the whole cookie maker rather than purchase a replacement part. When I purchased this deluxe stainless steel one I had my doubts because the handle operation looked a little bit funky. My previous one did not operate like this. But I really needed a cookie maker quickly so I tried it. LOVE IT! I noticed a complaint in one of the reviews about it skipping - maybe she received a defective one because mine works so smoothly and does not skip a beat. I can pump out those cookies so quickly it's amazing and consistant. And of course there are wonderful designs to choose from. Many people use it for spritz cookies only on Christmas. I use mine year round. One nice thing about it is that I look like I've spent hours on these delicate little cookies when in reality it's quicker than any drop cookie and the recipes are simple, simple, simple! And if you dip one end in dark chocolate or white chocolate they look very fancy. You can add lovely colors to your cookie dough and produce a rainbow of possibilties. This cookie maker is a breeze to clean. The pieces come apart easily and wash with hardly any effort. On the side of the box it shows the finished shape of each disc which is very helpful because some of the discs have a design that look nothing like the finished product. It makes a beautiful little heart cookie that is wonderful for Valentines Day. It makes a perfect little Christmas tree or wreathe for the holidays. It makes cute little flowers or stars or just fun shapes that are not anything in particular. I highly recommend this cookie maker. It's so easy to use and kind of fun. The possiblities are endless.

Okay, a biscuit is actually a cookie, but don't tell the kids that! What goes better than kids and cookies? This little cookie maker and kids and cookies !! The ease of operation, the consistent output, the great looking product, and lastly, the great tasting finished cookie, make this a fun afternoon project. With the 20 different cookie shapes, there is always something new to try. The included recipes also provide different things to try, or just stick with the basic great tasting sugar cookie. Clean-up is also a breeze, with the take apart approach, nothing is hard to get clean and dry. A great product, to make great tasting and great looking cookies, if you want, call them biscuits. The family and office will sure be glad you got this item.

The lever on this is very cheap; every 2nd or 3rd cookie it failed to catch and I had to reset it. It was incredibly frustrating to use and I eventually gave up. I'm sending mine back.

Amazon should omit the words "Stainless Steel" from the item name - most parts are made of aluminum.
Despite the above statement, this is not a problem for me since I do not put it in the dishwasher. Hand washing and towel-drying promptly after use will avoid the formation of dull, powdery aluminum oxide on surfaces - which would be transferred to the cookies when next used. I put NOTHING made from aluminum in the dishwasher for this reason. On the issue of aluminum and foods - I am far more concerned about the repeated use of "Teflon" (which is fatal to some household pets when overheated) and its long-term effects AND, unlike cookware, this item is not heated when used. This is the best cookie press I have ever used. It is an excellent design, has rugged construction and solidly interlocking parts, and comes with 20 different die plates. Coupled with selectable 2 sizes (1 or 2 ratchets per single press of the handle) this gives a large selection of options for the final appearance of your cookies. You simply hold the barrel in place with one hand and press the lever with the other hand to form perfect cookies. DO NOT discard the box. It shows each die along with the resulting cookie shape. Buy this cookie press after a thorough comparison with others. Plastic cookie presses often break sooner rather than later. - This one is up to the job.

I received the biscuit maker a few days ago and much to my surprise it is not made out of stainless steel. It is made out of aluminum, which is the material is was trying to avoid. This item is unfortunately advertised incorrectly. I am therefore returning it to amazon.

I was very disappointed with the quality of this cookie press..It was advertised as Stainless Steel when in fact its aluminum I think for the money I could have done a lot better and thought that perhaps because it was made in Italy it was going to be a better press then I received..
December 2008...Ok folks..I stand corrected!..even though I was disappointed in this cookie gun...I used it for the first time this year..and it pumped out the most perfect little cookies in no time flat!..it was easy to use...and I wish the tube was a bit larger...the discs are great and I made lots of great little cookies...I am glad I didnt return it!

The end of the plunger is plastic which doesn't hold up to pressing cookie dough. Replaced the part and still only good for a limited time.

I purchased this for myself more than a year ago to replace a much loved 25+ year old Wearever press that died; the advancing mechanism just wore out. I was a little hesitant about this new press because my Wearever one had a thickness control setting and this one has only 2 settings. I was tempted by the stainless steel, good reviews and many dies though. The first time I used it my dough must have been too stiff because it took a lot of effort to get the cookies out and I had a very hard time making them small. I was bummed. Undaunted, I tried again with the same family favorite butter cookie recipe but a softer dough and the press worked great. I made a large number of shapes and all worked fine. I've used it a few times since and like it a lot. I miss some of the shapes my Wearever press had but this one has a nice selection of dies. As others have mentioned, the downsides are I don't believe the press is stainless steel and the tube's volume is relatively small. It does come apart and can be washed easily.

Not bad but not the press from my childhood.,
By
This review is from: Norpro 3301 Deluxe Cookie Press (Kitchen)
I grew up making spritz cookies with my gram, particularly around the holidays. Because of all the happy, fun memories I had of that, I decided it was time to get a press of my own so my daughter could learn to make them with me.
The design of this cookie press is pretty good, extremely easy to use and clean. My hand was hurting after about 10 presses, so I had to wrap a towel around the lever. My complaint about this item is that for small cookies, you use the small setting. The dough, however, does not drop off onto the pan on that setting. Switching to the large setting doesn't work much better because then too much dough comes out and the cookies end up very "smooshed" and without enough definition. I played around with it and finally settled on small setting, one and a half presses. I'm still not terribly happy with the result, but I'll keep playing with it because they do TASTE like the spritz cookies of my childhood (: Perhaps I'll come back and revise my review, but until then, it gets 3 stars. |
