5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cheese Slicer
My wife and I enjoy eating cheese, but getting good cheese slices with a knife is difficult and time consuming. The cheap slicers available at the local super duper department store made uneven slices and quickly fall apart.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother...go with the Prodyne!
This board is cheapy made. The marble is smaller than the Prodyne and the wires are substandard. Mine came with the wire detached, and try as I might I couldn't get it attached. It was like the wire was too short! I have the other marble board Amazon sells--the black marble one, and it is awesome. Skip this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cheese Slicer, July 22, 2010

My wife and I enjoy eating cheese, but getting good cheese slices with a knife is difficult and time consuming. The cheap slicers available at the local super duper department store made uneven slices and quickly fall apart.
The Norpro White Marble Cheese Slicer 340 cost less than the combined price of the three broken cheese slicers we've been through. It's got a solid slab of marble for the base. The marble is polished smooth and provides a cool surface for the cheese to sit on while you slice. There's a grove in the marble that the wire slicer fits into. The unit comes with several spare slicing wires.
This device is quite simple. It's a big marble slab with a wire and a handle that enables you to make quite nice slices of cheese. The handle and wire have a little bit of play in them and I saw that some people didn't like that. Here's my take: This slicer does a fantastic job doing what it was intended to do - slicing cheese! It makes my wife happy and that makes me happy. Forget the cheap slicers from the department stores. Get this inexpensive and much higher quality slicer from Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Wanted!, February 9, 2010

I purchased this cheese slicer to replace a similar wooden cheese slicer that I had had for 20 years which had finally fell apart. This new slicer is exactly what I had hoped for. And I really like the idea that they also included, free of charge, two extra slicing wires. I'm sure that this slicer will last me several years; in fact, it will probably be the last cheese slicer I will have to buy.

I have bought so many gadgets on line and they were not worth buying. This cheese slicer is great. It comes with extra blades and it is strong when you cut cheese or other things that is hard to cut. I am happy with this.

I like this product, and, yes it came with two extra wires. And as I could not see any instructions on how to replace the wires, should it ever break, I wrote an e-mail, and they send me the instruction with a drawing (picture) on how to do it. All I can say, Great product, and a great co. that sells it.

This is the first product I've ordered from Amazon that was defective. I totally agree with speedybee62's review. My slicer wire was also unattached, and broken. The replacement was impossible to reattach. Think I'll go back to the old-fashioned hand-held slicer. Ordered this because mine broke (after 20+ years!). Hand-held cost less and is much easier to store.

I have searched for this item a long time and found it this year at Amazon. I bought these for gifts because I love the one I have had for years, and my family all love it. They wanted one of their own and they are delighted with them. A great buy and a terrific value. The best and easiest way to slice cheese and they last for years to come.

I really don't see how this cheese slicer got anything above a one star!

It is sloppy quality - there was bits of marble chipped off my unit.

It is practically impossible to put the wire on this unit. I tried for hours, and it kept slipping out of the little notch that was supposed to hold the wire.

It is a very poorly designed unit.
