It's about time! I have been wanting this for a long time. This slicer is nice and sturdy. It has blades, not wires!
I have been wanting something to slice mushrooms with. It always seemed logical to me that an egg slicer should be able to slice mushrooms, as well. I would buy egg slicers at the store only to have them break on me with the very first use. I never had even one make a mark on a mushroom. A mushroom! We aren't talking about rocks here. I can't imagine any of those pieces of junk cutting eggs either. I ordered this one and I am happy! It is good and solid- metal with blades! It is much bigger than the grocery store garbage, too. Did I mention that it has blades?! I look forward to many years of service from this gadget.

I've been wanting this slicer ever since I saw it in a high-end kitchen store for $25. After breaking my umpteenth wire-type slicer, I finally broke down and ordered this one - Fast shipping! and it's really well made. The slices are a bit thicker than with the wire ones I think, but it won't break! I sliced huge strawberries by standing them on end. It worked great. Another advantage - it's much easier to clean than the wire type - so far I am really happy with the quality and the design.

Based on the great reviews for this product, I was expecting a lot out of this slicer. It failed miserably! First of all, it's too small for a standard size large egg. One edge of the egg always ends up getting mashed instead of sliced. Not cool. Also, it takes forever to clean! The blade area is very deep, so little pieces of egg get stuck in there all the time. At least with a wire cutter, the wires are easy to clean! My last complaint is that the blades don't always line up right with the slots they're supposed to fit into. I can't just squeeze the thing shut, I have to manually guide the blades into the correct slots. Overall, I'm very disappointed. I'll be returning to a wire slicer.

I love my slicer! I use it to slice a big bowl of strawberries for salad or shortcake. The slicer was delivered fast, it was used the same minute I unwrapped it. It is useful for slicing mushrooms, too. Easy to clean and store. It is one of the most used gadgets in my kitchen.

My family loves mushrooms. I've purchased different slicers before but the wires always popped. When I saw this slicer with the blades I thought it was worth a try. I used it this morning and it literally took me 2 minutes to slice a box full of mushrooms!!! I'm in heaven!!!! I will never buy another wire slicer again!!!!

My fiance loves to cook. He wanted a slicer with metal bars, instead of wires. He has destroyed several wire egg slicers trying to slice fruit, not to mention all the strawberries he has mashed along the way. I looked in multiple stores, before finally finding this product online. He is thrilled with it, and I enjoy eating the lovely sliced strawberries.

I've had one of these for several years that I paid much more for.
Different make, but the same tool. I just picked up one at this great price so I could gift it to a friend. Others have already pointed out that it operates with blades, not wires. It's made to last a long time and makes quick work out of slicing many foods. We use it for hard boiled eggs, mushrooms, olives, strawberries, cherries and many other foods that are tedious to slice. It's easy to clean with a dish brush and always one of my go-to tools. Would make a great stocking stuffer for anyone who cooks much or makes a lot of salads.

It's okay, but the blades are not what I expected. My old one had wire blades which were more efficient. This one has metal blades that tend to mash the item a little before it slices it. I would still like to find one like the one I've had for 15-20 years.

I have a plastic slicer similar to this that is great, but I wanted a sturdier metal version. This one doesn't measure up for these reasons. First of all, the cutting area is too small. It works for medium to small strawberries, mushrooms and eggs, but the large size of any of those just gets stuck. The next problem is that it is upside down. The whole reason I love the plastic version is that it can be operated one-handed, that means the handle is squeezed and the sliced item falls right into the bowl. With this unit, the cradle where the item to be sliced is placed is on the bottom so the slices emerge through the top and fall all over the place--or you have to place the item in the cradle and then turn the slicer over before squeezing it. Hummm.
The plastic 'as seen on TV' version is very effective and I really like it, but the plastic handle doesn't feel sturdy enough to last very long, which is why I bought this one. Unfortunately, this one lacks the two features I most love--a big cutting surface and the ability to use it one-handed so multiple strawberries can be quickly sliced right onto the morning yogurt or cereal, or the mushrooms can be sliced efficiently right into the pan. The unit does work and effectively slices whatever with the sturdy blades. A rinse under the faucet cleans it up and it will lock closed with a tab at the end of the handle. It's worth three stars for those reasons, but I wouldn't rebuy.

I have used this slicer for eggs, mushrooms, and strawberries. I've never had a slicer work this well consistently. For the price you won't find a better slicer!
