5.0 out of 5 stars This is the real deal. Everything else is a toy.
This is the best scoop ever! Do not confuse this with the flimsy scoops you purchase from the grocery or department store-- you can just throw them away! Its real heavy and the teeth cut though the ice cream like butter. Plus the release button on top allows you to perfectly place scoops onto your cone-- no other ice cream scoop has that.

2.0 out of 5 stars close but not the same scoop used in stores
As a former Baskin Robbins owner for 20 years I can attest to the fact that this is NOT the scoop used in BR stores. Our 25+ year old scoops are still bright and shiny-- and solid stainless steel, very heavy. Also, there is no name inscribed in the actual scoops. The newer "real" scoops used today have a serrated edge. But the operation of the scoop can't be...

Btw the secret to making perfectly round ice cream scoops is rinsing the scooper after every scoop. That way the ice cream never gets stuck/freezes in the scoop. Don't fall for the scoops that claim to be "non-stick" or the microwavable ones-- not worth the money.

Our 25+ year old scoops are still bright and shiny-- and solid stainless steel, very heavy. Also, there is no name inscribed in the actual scoops. The newer "real" scoops used today have a serrated edge. But the operation of the scoop can't be beat-it is the best designed scoop there is. But this resale item is merely a cheaper version of the real thing (which currently costs over $25 from the only approved smallwares supplier BR has and can only sell to BR stores!)

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst scooper I've ever used, September 3, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
After reading several great reviews, I thought this would be the perfect replacement for a lost (cheaper) ice cream scooper. Unfortunately, I found it sorely lacking in several areas. First, the scoop head itsself is rather thin. Thus, it turns cold immediately and the ice cream sticks to it - even after rinsing in hot water. Second, the shape of the head is a half-sphere, which doesn't form balls as well as the more saddle-shaped heads. Third, the push-out lever is a pain to use and clean - with better-shaped heads, getting the ball out is not an issue - with this one, it often doesn't work and gets gunked up pretty quickly. Finally, as another review pointed out the finish looks awful after one wash in the dishwasher.

1.0 out of 5 stars hard to clean, August 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
I thought it was stainless steel and after a trip through the dishwasher it looks just awful....like splotchy discolored zinc. I hope it's safe to be in contact with food but it looks very unappealing. Also, you must have VERY STRONG FINGERS to remove and then reinstall the push-button spring in order to clean it properly. It's a good design idea but needs to be better made.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Ice Cream Scooper - From the Pros, July 13, 2003
By

This review is from: Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
As a former B&R worker, I can attest that this is the same scooper used in the stores, and after years of trying different types of scoopers, I finally found them available for purchase! At the time I worked there, there were 3 sizes - This is the small or "junior" size - perfect for home use. The scooper should be briefly rinsed and tapped dry (a little "tap-tap" on a sponge is best) after each swipe at the ice cream to guarentee perfect scoops, but if you're not in the ice cream business, a sloppy scoop is fun too. Of course the _biggest_ factor is ice cream temperature - not too hard, not too soft.

If this product is in-fact steel, it should be dishwasher safe, although it bears mentioning that the original B&R scoopers were aluminum, and like all aluminum, are not suitable for dishwasher or corrosive chemical cleaning!! For those who have commented about "residue" and pitting, you must care for aluminum products with a good scrubbing, and again, no use of corrosive cleaning techniques such as dishwashers. If you have a "ruined" aluminum scooper, you might try scrubbing it hard with a green scotch-brite pad - this may reveal virgin aluminum, depending on how far gone it is. Care of the scooper is easy - just rinse with water and wipe dry!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Winner, July 5, 2004

This is the best ice cream scoop made! Makes a nice round ball of ice cream that easily releases. Handle is easy to hold if you have trouble with carpel tunnel or arthritis. Have tried many types of scoops, but this one is the one that really works. Purchasing this as a "stocking stuffer" for everyone this upcoming holiday season.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not dishwasher safe, May 29, 2003

I am not positive but I thought this was dishwasher safe. I used the item once and put it in the dishwasher. That was a no-no, it turned black and so did anything that it touched. Prior to that, it worked fine. Now I don't want to use it at all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Performance but Inferior Quality, February 18, 2006
This review is from: Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
This ice cream scooper fits nicely in the hand and cuts through hard ice cream with ease. The scoop ejection mechanism is a handy feature as well. However, the quality is a little suspect and I would be suprised to find that this is the same scoop they use in the actual stores. The metal is thin and discoloration occured after one trip through the dishwasher. This is a better scoop than most others, but do not expect the highest quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Scoop out there..., April 11, 2003

THE BEST, properly used it will become the only scooper you use. I work in a restraunt and after breaking about a dozen trigger scoopes in a few months I decided to buy my own and bring it to work. I purchased the Baskin Robbins scoop and I'll never use the ones my job provides again. The complaints I see most on the other reviews refer to the finish, so if you are looking for quality of use get this one. If you are looking for something that looks good buy the cow scoop that makes a "moo" sound when you scoop and leave this one to the professionals. This Scooper isn't made to look good, don't even bother to wash it in the dishwasher, it'll ruin the finish. Rinse with warm water and mild soap and it will stay looking good as the day you bought it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice ice cream lover tool!, July 15, 2002

This review is from: Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Scoop (Kitchen)
It makes scooping ice cream so easy. But I thought this item is made of a heavy steel like its description, but it's not. It's light, in my opinion. If this was just a little heavier, it may make scooping ice cream even easier.
