4.0 out of 5 stars a hint for making this work well
I received a honey dispenser as a wedding gift a few years ago, when Williams Sonoma carried them (slightly different model). 3.0 out of 5 stars Better for Maple Syrup!
While I do keep honey in it, the opening at the base is a bit too small and it takes longer to let the honey drip out than it would take to drizzle maple syrup over pancakes. So, if you are patient enough it is perfect and you don't have a big honey mess to clean up everyday after you use a honey bear.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, but..., January 23, 2002

I have to agree with the previous reviews that this dispensses honey way too slowly. Additionally, it is much too difficult to fill without making a mess, since you cannot have the top open without having the bottom open as well. This dispenser is just not worth the trouble and mess, no matter how great the idea.

I've used this to sweeten my tea every day for a few years now - it still looks and works like new. Our children and overnight guests love to play with it - writing their name or making doodles on their toast.

HELPFUL HINTS FOR USE:

Runny honey (room temperature) works best - if it's thick or crystallized it'll take a loooong time to dispense, if at all. So before you pour the honey into the dispenser pour it into a microwavable measuring cup and boil it in the microwave to melt the honey. Let it cool to room temperature before pouring it into the dispenser - you don't want to burn yourself. The honey will remain runny after it cools. Don't refrigerate it - honey never spoils.

Are you looking at this picture and thinking: How do I get the honey in there?
There are three parts: the lever/stopper/top, the honey pot, and the base.
1. Remove the honey pot from the base.
2. Screw off the lever/stopper/top.
3. Set the smaller opening of the honey pot (the lower opening) on a plate or saucer - it will balance quite nicely on a stable surface and stops the honey drizzling out while you're filling it.
4. Pour the honey into the larger, top opening. Fill to about 1/2" from the top to allow room for the stopper.
5. Insert and screw on the lever/stopper/top.
Yes, some honey will drip out the bottom while you're screwing the top on so keep it over the plate or multi-task and drizzle it over your toast or tea while you're screwing the top on.
6. Replace the honey pot in the base to keep it all tidy and clean.

2.0 out of 5 stars Handel not Stainless Steel as described, April 7, 2006

I just recieved my honey dispenser and was very disappointed with the plastic handel and plunger mechanism. I had to go back and read the description, and sure enough, the description said the handel was stainless steel. It's not! It's chrome coated PLASTIC. Unfortunately, if I had read the reviews, I would of picked up on that.

The handle and pump mechanism for this dispenser are cheesy plastic - they will not last at all. The previous reviewer also pointed out - correctly, that the honey drips out very slowly. Not worth the money. They should have used a metal handle and pump and charged a reasonable price for decent quality. Not worth your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Norpro 1-Cup Honey Dispenser simply does not work!, October 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Norpro Honey Syrup Dispenser (Kitchen)
There is a ball at base of container that is suppose to move when lever at top of container is pushed. This does not happen, I tried to get the ball to work and was rewarded with all the syrup coming out in a gush.
This item does not work for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Honey Dispenser, January 18, 2008

I like the honey dispenser for its non-drip feature. However, it's a little tricky to fill because you have to hold a fingertip over the opening on the bottom. Then you have to put down the bottle or jar you are filling from and insert and screw tight the top of the honey dispenser while your fingertip is still covering the bottom hole. After the plunger is in place, you can move your finger. Also, the top appears to be chrome or some kind of metal in the picture. Not true. It's a silver-tone plastic. I was very disappointed about this, but it probably explains why the instructions recommend hand washing. Dishwasher detergent is very caustic and would probably discolor or chip the faux silver finish. Would I purchase this for a friend? Yes, but I would provide a written set of instructions. There are no instructions on the box or in the box.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST Honey Dispenser (From two serious honey lovers)!, May 20, 2011
This review is from: Norpro Honey Syrup Dispenser (Kitchen)
As HUGE honey lovers, we go through LOTS of honey and have tried several styles of dispensers...the one with the 'dip 'n' drip stick', the 'pitcher-style', and this one by Norpro is, hands down, the. best. possible. way. we have ever found to make using honey an easy and sticky-free, delicious experience. In fact, I am on here to order our second one, as my husband and I use it constantly. We need one for the table and another one for our hot beverage dispenser counter. We first used one of these little gems at our favorite Bed and Breakfast place, where they keep them in stock for those who just HAVE to have one to take home with them! I notice that someone wrote a review knocking it for dispensing the honey too slowly. Perhaps their honey has become too thick for pouring. This happens when the honey is around so long that it begins to crysalize. If this is the problem, then just liquify it by placing it in a container in some hot water. With this great little jewel, though, part of the ease and beauty of the disingn, is that you can just fill the little pointed base that the dispenser rests in with hot water for a minute or two, and it will flow like a dream!
Seriously, I can not say enough about this product!!! If you love honey, but hate sticky messes, you really should not have any qualms about purchasing this little baby. I never, EVER want to be without it! Buy it, and you will not be sorry! Promise. =)!
