This is a great product. I will make it really simple for you.
1. Pour ICE COLD 2% milk into the frother, about half way to the max fill line
2. Pump it for 30 seconds
3. Put the whole glass beaker (minus the pump) into the microwave for 30 seconds
4. Let sit
5. Brew your espresso, pour the shot in your mug/glass/cup/drinking device
6. Spoon the froth on top of your espresso
7. Add sugar if desired, drink, enjoy, impress your wife
8. Wife kisses you
9. This leads to baby making, so you start a family, raise the kids, get a mortgage
10. Amass some debt, pay for college and your daughter's wedding
11. Retire
12. Spend all your retirement money at Amazon.com
13. Bequeath the frother to your grandson or granddaughter so they can begin the cycle all over again.

Previous reviewers who had worked as coffee professionals enthused that the Norpro frother produces thicker, creamier froth than even the most expensive expresso machines -- and they're right. There couldn't be a handier and more effective little kitchen aid.
1. I don't drink cold coffee drinks, so I have no advice about that, but for best
results with hot froth, you must have a microwave. Pour in a very small amount of cold milk, lightly hold down the pumper with one hand to stabilize it and pump for 20 seconds with the other hand, and then place the beaker (without the metal pumper, of course)
in the microwave for 20-40 seconds, and watch the froth rise, rise, rise. Keep a close
watch because it can overflow easily. The froth is so thick, you have to take it out with a spatula!
2. Cleaning: What's the big deal? When you're done, rinse it out immediately with hot water. For a solid scrub, pour hot water and a little detergent into the beaker, and use the pumper to create suds and give the glass and metal a good clean.
3. Fragility: Duh, it's glass. Honestly, people go on and on about this, but I cannot
see what the problem is. Be. Careful.
Enjoy magnificent foam for coffee & hot chocolate.

I have gone through several frothers in the past couple years, only to be disappointed in all of them.
Then I found this one and, finally IT WORKS!!!
I am buying another one, in case I break the one I have.

I am stunned by the positive reviews of this frother. This is my third frother, the others are Bodum and then a wand type which is pretty useless. This is basically the same design as the Bodum but on this one there is no opening or air hole at the top; the lid goes all the way around with no air allowed to escape while frothing, which I didn't realize until now is essential for proper air flow. Even with the milk below the allowable level it spurts out of the top and spills all over the place, and yes, I have tried holding the top securely in place. I have tried slowing down the pumping action to a gentler pace but then it takes forever to create froth. Because of this I can only froth in the sink, and sure enough, after having this only a few weeks, the glass broke from only a very light accidental tap against the side of the sink.

I have had my Bodum glass frother for two+ years...one time my husband slightly chipped the top but I was able to use a nail file to smooth it out and it was fine. I bought this one only because it has a slightly larger capacity and I usually make coffee for two....the Bodum was really only good for one cup for the amount of milk we like in our coffee.

Bottom line....flawed design and very thin, delicate glass.

I purchased this frother thinking it may or may not work. I usually make froth using my cappuccino machine. I thought a frother would be great, but could something this simple really work? Yes, it does!

The instructions say something like you should use hot or cold milk, not warm milk (if froths better); I have used skim milk strait from the frige and it works great. Pour milk in, cycle the plunger about 30 times, and then you have great froth. This is easy to do, with a great result.

Cleanup is easy, I rinse and let sit; when I use it the next morning I rinse again before use.

Materials: rubber foot, glass carafe, metal top, metal rod, plastic frothing disk, metal screen, plastic ball on top. I see the plastic frothing disk and I think this will wear out with use, I see the plastic ball on top does not unscrew, will probably come off at some point. I am not dishwashing this unit to try to increase its life. I would guess this unit will last me 1-2 years; when it fails I will buy a replacement that is totally metal and glass without any plastic parts.

I purchased this milk frother as a replacement for a Bonjour frother that had lasted me close to 10 years until a small part broke and I could find no replacement. I should have bought another Bonjour! For about $24, 10 years is a pretty good track record. The Norpro is flimsy and the plunger does not fit in the carafe tightly enough, hence little to no froth, no matter how many times I pumped it. I would not recommend this frother to anyone! Instead, buy the Bonjour. It is sturdy and well made and froths milk beautifully with little to no effort. The Bonjour costs only 3 to 4 dollars more and is available Amazon Prime. I received it in 2 days as promised. Excellent product, excellent price and the usual outstanding Amazon service!

This frother does a great job, doubling the volume of hot milk in 20 seconds.
To keep it clean: I rinse mine with hot water and then every couple days hand wash it in soapy water.
The container is glass, so a previous reviewer's idea of purchasing a back-up sounds smart. 'Course an active household can destroy anything. I had to replace an aerolatte frother after my husband tried to use it to make a smoothie. It bent the stem of the frother rendering it useless.

This frother froths really well however the glass broke after a couple of months during use, i.e. while moving the frother up and down. So be careful when frothing since the insert is loose and too strong motion can break the glass!

This is the only frother I have owned, so I can't compare the froth it makes to what others make. I put in enough milk to fill it to about half an inch below the max line. I used hot milk first, but I usually do cold milk now. I pump it for about 15 seconds until the milk comes out the little hole on top, which means the froth is all the way to the top of the container. The milk doesn't spurt out or go anywhere, just a little bubble forms at the opening like when you stick a straw in a fast food soda lid and a bit of soda appears in the hole. The froth is a great consistency. It thickens as it sits so pour it right away if you want it to thicken in the coffee mug rather than in the frother. I use a 20 or 24 ounce mug, I don't remember the size. I fill it about 2/3 with coffee, and the rest of the way with froth. The froth sits about 1/2 an inch over the top of the cup. It doesn't run or anything it sits there in a big puff. Sometimes I add canned whipped cream on top. So when I drink it I get a little of all three layers. When I fill the frother all the way to the max line there's too much froth for the space in the mug. I use skim milk, and the froth lasts for 20 to 30 minutes before it starts melting into the coffee. When I used 2% milk the froth was not as thick and it started melting almost immediately after I poured it into the mug. So the type of milk you use does matter in the quality of froth you get. There's no real clean-up involved either, I just rinse out the glass jar and the plunger with water and let it air dry. I've been using this for about 7 months and have had no problems with it.
