5.0 out of 5 stars This is the one you want!
You are going to be amazed at this slicer when you try it out. It is extremely sturdy compared to the plastic ones that we have. It is entirely stainless steel, and you can clean this up quite easily. I have tried this wish mushrooms, eggs, and strawberries. The wires are slightly thicker than most. If you are looking for a good slicer this is the one you need.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for mushrooms
I got this thing since it was labeled as being an egg/mushroom slicer. After 3 mushrooms, two wires snapped and that was the end of it. Didn't even get through my first batch!

As an egg slicer, it seemed like it'd be average. But for mushrooms? No chance.

4.0 out of 5 stars mushrooms no problem, July 22, 2002

I use this slicer to cut mushrooms around 2-5 times per week. I've had it for less than a year. It works great. The slices are nice and uniform, it is easy to use. I bought two on a Friday sale because I had concerns about the durability after reading the other reviews and the product was so cheap. After much heavy use slicing various types of mushrooms I feel this slicer is durable. And yes, it does sound nice when played like a little harp.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stainless ... or Not, May 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Norpro Egg/Mushroom Slicer (Kitchen)
I bought this product for my wife. She loves it and it works great, but it tarnished in the dishwasher. It appears that the other review posted about the wires being stainless, but the rest of the unit not so is correct.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Product, January 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Norpro Egg/Mushroom Slicer (Kitchen)
This product definitely did not meet expectations. The hinge was loose, therefore the wires did not go into the slots smoothly on every pass. In fact, one of the wires broke during my first attempt to slice mushrooms. This one is going back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good things in small packages, September 29, 2000
This review is from: Norpro Egg/Mushroom Slicer (Kitchen)
Compact, sleek, incredibly easy to use. Fits nicely into a compartment in my silverware drawer. Turns out wonderfully uniform slices in seconds, and is quite sturdy. Price is low and this is definitely NOT a case of "you get what you pay for" - I had originally bought a slightly more expensive unit (another brand) that broke immediately after trying to slice one ordinary mushroom. This is really a bargain and I would gladly have paid more for this. The added bonus is that I didn't have to!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good - but could be better, January 15, 2001

This is the best of all the egg/mushroom slicers I've ever used. I've owned several plastic slicers over the years and they wobble and bend when you try to slice an egg. Don't even consider using them on a mushroom. Compared to what is on the market this is worlds better than what you are likely to find. However, because the slicing wires don't go past the holder, on tough items like mushrooms, it doesn't usually cut cleanly all the way through. This is the best I've ever used, but it could be better.

5.0 out of 5 stars One tough egg---slicer, June 29, 2006
This review is from: Norpro Egg/Mushroom Slicer (Kitchen)
Who knew one NEEDED a super-strong egg slicer?
But after a few tough eggs popped the wires on
numerous plastic ones and mushrooms broke the
wires on a metal one, this one stood the test!
