5.0 out of 5 stars You can get the filters for this, but not from Amazon!!!!
Don't get the filters that come up on this page. They're for a different size keeper.

I contacted Norpro and they said it is replacement 93F that goes with it.

Do a google search, and a few options come up.

Norpro also suggested: "Also try, Ace Hardware, True Value Hardware, Do It Best Hardware." But you would have to get them to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Stainless steel would be better
We bought this thinking it would look better than stainless steel. We love to compost and this pail sure beats keeping a bucket on the counter. However, it is heavy and the handle is poorly made. We bought this thinking it would look better than stainless steel. We love to compost and this pail sure beats keeping a bucket on the counter. However, it is heavy and the handle is poorly made. When you life up the handle it comes off of the clunky clips on the side. This really needs to be redesigned.

We removed the poor handle after the first trip to the compost. The ceramic is not only heavy, but it is also much harder to keep clean that the stainless steel. The ceramic tends to pick up stains which are hard to scrub out. And of course there is always the fear of breaking it.

As long as the filter is kept clean and fresh, the pail emits no odors. Whether you choose stainless steel or ceramic, make sure you buy some extra filters. You'll be happy you did.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice product but if I did it over again - Stainless, August 8, 2008

I purchased this product after already owning the stainless version for a year. I gave the stainless to someone else because this white ceramic pedestal - looking object seemed to fit with my decor better. But what I've found is, (1) I am for the first time a bit nervous about breaking it or breaking glass tea pots when I shake the loose tea into this container, (2) it is certainly heavier than the stainless when lugging it (the weight is not a deal breaker), and (3) it does not seem to seal around the edge of the top anywhere as well as its stainless counterpart resulting in fruit flies getting attracted to it and actually inside on a regular basis - something that seemed to happen less with the stainless one. So carbon filter helps a lot but the leaky cover undermines the filter.

Still compared to not having either choice and seeing how nicely made this object is, it gets the benefit of just over half credit in my scoring.

I'd go back to stainless in a heartbeat when I feel the moment has come.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks great on the counter, March 31, 2008
We love how this looks on our counter, and it does a great job of keeping the kitchen scraps nicely contained. The filter at the top really works-- there is NO odor, even after a week or so of collecting vegetable scraps, egg shells, coffee grounds, and the like.

My only complaint is about the handle. If I'm not careful, it will come unhinged from one side as I'm carrying it--which is not something I want to happen on my way outside to the compost pile! I have learned to be very careful when carrying it.

3.0 out of 5 stars does the job but it's fragile, November 25, 2007
We bought the ceramic version because it looks much nicer on the counter. It holds a lot and does not stink up the kitchen so that's all good. However, the little knob on top has broken off twice, and the ceramic is a bit stained. We're wishing we had bought the stainless steel version instead. It wouldn't necessarily look as attractive, but I suspect it would be much more durable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Our counter composter, February 13, 2007
I really like my crock composter. It looks good on the counter instead of my old unsightly bucket. The filter in the lid works great too and is easy to clean. All in all, I am very satisfied with it and would highly recommend it.

No smell, no mess. Very handy way to collect kitchen waste for the compost bin. Simply rinse after emptying (I run mine through the dishwasher).

I was very unhappy when this crock arrived, I have seen many of these crocks from differenr manufactures, This one being the most expensive I thought it would be the best. I was wrong!! Crock looks cheap, the handle keeps falling off every time it is moved. Handle made from cheap wire. I would have sent it back if I did not live in such a remote location where returns are very expensive. I will not advise anyone to buy this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent produce, September 16, 2007

I love this container...it helps me compost! Usually I am too lazy to take the food outside so it builds up in an unsightly pile in a bowl until I set it outside where the coons have their way with it and make a mess. This way I can store the compost until the container is full and then take it outside. It looks good and there is no smell!

1.0 out of 5 stars No tight seal means fruit fly infestation, at least in Colorado, October 22, 2008
By
JRC (Boulder, CO) - See all my reviews
I just moved to Boulder, CO where composting seems to be the norm. I don't mind putting my food in a bucket instead of the garbage disposal, but I do mind the fruit flies that come seemingly out of nowhere when I began doing this. I bought this Ceramic compost keeper thinking it would solve the fruit fly problem. It did not. This product does not have a tight seal on the lid and consequently it allows fruit flies to enter and feast and breed on my rotting food until I make a trip out to the compost pile. Pretty disgusting. Other than that, it's okay..looks nice, washes nicely in the dishwasher, doesn't smell. If there is such a place with no fruit flies, it would work just fine there.
