4.0 out of 5 stars Alton Brown and Good Eats uses this for vanilla beans!, September 6, 2008
This review is from: Norpro French Bean Slicer
On the Good Eats episode on milk and milk products, Alton Brown sliced vanilla beans with this product and dropped the four parts into the heated milk for the topping on the Tres Leches Cake. Having struggled with shriveled vanilla bean pods, I am very thankful for the recommendation.

I bought the slicer after seeing a cooking show where the cook used one exactly like this. Since then I have used mine and it perfectly slices beans, even taking off the outside stringy part. Well worth the cost!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good tool, July 29, 2008
This review is from: Norpro French Bean Slicer
Even though this item only frenches one bean it a time it's consistant, sharp and fairly quick to use; afterall, most of us are not going to be frenching 25 lbs. of beans in a sitting. I'm planning on entering some french cut green beans in the county fair this next month. We'll see what the comments are.

We grow many of our own vegetables in our garden, and one of our favorites is green beans. I blanch and freeze them at the end of the season. In addition to packaging them whole and cut, one of my favorites is french cut. Before finding the Norpro French Bean Slicer, I had been cutting each bean by hand. It wasn't difficult to cut the beans with a knife, but after a while, it does get tiresome. I happened to come across this tool on a web site showing how to french cut beans, and then found it on Amazon. So I decided to give it a try. You wouldn't think something like this would save much time, but it really does. It also eliminates the chance of cutting yourself when slicing the beans with a knife. I wish I had found this handy tool a long time ago.

I first used this in France. While you can only do one bean at a time, it goes fast, and the end result is excellent. Easy directions to follow and a unique addition to any kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Little Tool, September 4, 2011

I found this tool very easy to use, I cut beans while also watching television. It works very well for it's small cost. I can small amounts due to having only 2 people in my family, so only cutting 1 bean at a time is not really an inconvenience for me compared to the cost and having to use a larger cutter attached to the counter in the kitchen.

Its cheap and effective. so long as you arent trying to jam anything other than a bean through it, it should last for a long time.
