4.0 out of 5 stars Great little Tenderizer
This thing should be called the Little Poker.
It's one hell of a tenderizer.
I would have rated it higher than a 4 and given it a 5 but it's already started to rust. That's entirely my fault for not cleaning and drying it. I assumed that I could just rinse and clean it and leave it to air dry. Do not do that. I would spray alittle vegetable oil or harmless...

I had been shopping for a meat tenderizer and came across this one from Norpro. I have to admit that it was the price and the 4-for-3 promo inclusion that convinced me to buy it.

After having a chance to use it here it what I think.

It works very well and for the money it's a steal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well..., July 25, 2006

Helps tenderize meat and allow the flavor of your marinade to penetrate deep inside. Running it under some hot water cleaned it right off. Even though the products with more blades would probably work better, this is a great buy for someone on a budget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meat Tenderizer, April 18, 2008
This review is from: Norpro Grip-EZ Professional Meat Tenderizer (Kitchen)
This is a great little tool, mainly because of its very inexpensive price.

Pros:
-Inexpensive
-Really does tenderize the meat, and does it well

Cons:
-Difficult to clean the interior spikes

Other than that I've had no problems with it. The only way for me to clean it is squeezing soapy water into it just after I've finished using it. The grip works well, since a lot of vigorous pounding is required. Prepare to do a lot of pounding though, but it will be worth it as steaks that were once tough and stringy will be tender.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very effective, January 27, 2007

My friend had one and I used one similar to this product and it was great. I purchase this product for myself and I love it. It does a great job tenderlizing the meat. Hope you don't mine a little work. It is a manual tenderizer, but worth every bit when you take a bite of that steak!

I love this product, one of my favorite kitchen gadgets. Easy to use, doesn't splatter blood and juices all over like a traditional meat pounder and its easy to clean, I just put some hot soapy water in the sink and swish it around after washing with a sponge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great But Not Perfect, November 20, 2010

I've tenderized steaks many different ways--poking holes with a fork, pounding them with a meat tenderizing hammer, marinating in special sauces & spices, etc., but this is, in my experience, the best way to turn an inexpensive cut into a juicy tenderized steak. However, buying a cheap product has it's pros & cons:

Pros:
-Inexpensive
-Very simple to use (just press down on meat)
-Easy to grip
-Easy to clean (Run hot water, soak in soapy water then rinse, or dishwasher)
-Saves time (24 holes per poke)

Cons:
-Gets stuck on thicker pieces of meat that will make this job A LOT HARDER!
-"Sharp" stainless steel prongs are sometimes not sharp enough
-More expensive models have almost 50 razor sharp blades

For the price, you're getting an excellent product, but it's definitely not the best one out there.

I had been shopping for a meat tenderizer and came across this one from Norpro. I have to admit that it was the price and the 4-for-3 promo inclusion that convinced me to buy it.

After having a chance to use it here it what I think.

Pros:
* Spikes protected by retractable plate.
* Great for allowing marinades to really get into the meat.
* Dishwasher safe.

Cons:
* Spikes are rather large and can stick in the meat, making it hard to use.
* Diameter of spikes relatively small.

Overall it works, but I will be looking for something else to match more of what I wanted and not concern myself so much with the price.

The tenderizer is very simplistic, yet very efficient. However, one of the two I ordered was defective: pins were pulling out. This does not say much for their quality control!
