When I was growing up we had a "coiled spring" whisk that was oval rather than round (the main wire, not the coil). It was not quite as flat bottomed at this one, and my mother used it constantly, especially for gravy--and she NEVER had lumpy gravy. I inherited that whisk, but the plating is worn and it rusts easily. Then one day I saw this whisk and said, VIOLA!!! I purchased it, and I use it constantly, even in containers where I used to use regular elongated wire whisks. I use this more than all my other whisks combined! It is perfect for use in saute pans for sauces, and although the wire is metal it does not mar non-stick surfaces. It's worth twice the price--because it is a real workhorse!!! If you've never seen or owned one, get one, and consider it the perfect gift for any cook you know--even cooks that aren't very good ones--this will make them a better cook--especially for sauces and gravies!!!

This is a large whisk with a diameter of 4 inches! Not for small containers. The handle-grip is also 4 inches long. This whisk makes quick work sauces.

I've used a coiled whisk for making gravy and sauces for 45 years. My old one is smaller and lighter weight. When I saw this larger coiled whisk made of stainless steel, I immediately purchased two--one for my son and DIL and one for myself. I highly recommend it...a whisk of this style and quality is hard to find and the price is great. If you've never used a coiled whisk before, you'll wonder how you ever got along without one.

This whisk works better than a balloon since it gets into the corners and covers a large area so it makes quick work even if you only have a small amount of sauce in the pan.
