Here's an update now that I have heard back from the seller. The seller refused to accept responsibility for its false description or incorrect shipment and therefore refused to refund shipping cost in either direction (I see that this is now a Prime product but it was not when I bought it-I paid $9.99 for shipping). I won't be dealing with non-Amazon sellers again.
They bake up quickly. 7-minutes at 400 degrees. No need to pre-prep the tortillas.
Make sure you use some form of Pam / Cooking Spray sparingly.
Cleans up quickly. Put a paper towel between units and place back into the boxes for protection.
We're goin to have Taco Salad tonight. Enjoy yours!
UPDATE (9-17-2011) - We used a Cadco portable convection oven and they cooked up in about 5 minutes at 400+ We made them fresh for a catering event. They work well especially by stacking them on each other to form the mold then separating the forms and placing 2-3 per 1/2 sheet pan. (Leave the Tortillas in the mold during baking).
They were extremely well liked. Use the 8" for both soft tacos and bowls at an event and 10" for bowls only at the house. Wait till they brown on the edges. We use 8, will be buying another 4-8. Bon-Appitite!
My first attempt was making them into dessert bowls with small tortillas. I brushed it orange juice and sprinkle generously with mixture of cinnamon, sugar, and a little nutmeg. I baked it at 375 degrees for 8 minutes but realized it could go for a bit longer so I left them in for 10 but later I was more satisfied with 11 minutes for my oven. I made home made vanilla ice cream and these bowls were sooooo good...almost too tough to break into, tortilla flakes will go flying but it is delicious!
Then I made shells for taco salads. At first I was thinking of using olive oil or coconut oil to brush the top and bottom and then sprinkle on some tex mex seasoning and spices but then I thought...the orange juice I used didn't give it much of an orange flavor so I think the liquid was there to moisten and help seasoning stick to the shell so I brushed it with orange juice and put on savory spices and a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese. YUM!
I am going to post pictures of the shells I made look like. I think next time, I will use chicken stock for the savory shells and stick with orange juice or apple juice...wait, pineapple juice would be delicious too I bet... I'm so very excited about these pans, they work and just opened up a new avenue for culinary adventures!!
