Product Description

Bake crispy tortilla bowls without the grease in minutes. Simply press a tortilla into a baker, pushing it into the curves, and then bake it for 8 to 10 minutes. After they have cooled down they are ready to be filled with whatever you wish.

Amazon.com

Reduce the fat at the next Mexican fiesta with Norpro's tortilla bowl makers. these tortilla bakers quickly crisp tortillas into a shell that's ideal for serving taco salads, salsa, or dip. They're simple to use: just press a tortilla into a baker, pushing it into the curves, and then bake it for 8 to 10 minutes. After a five-minute cool-down period, the now-crisp tortilla can be stuffed with beans, meat, lettuce, cheese, chiles, and whatever else you want. The 2-1/4-inch-deep by 8-1/2-inch-wide bakers can also be used for brioche (there's a good recipe on the box) and other breads, desserts, and molded salads. Because the tortilla bakers have a nonstick coating, they should not be used with metal utensils, and should be washed by hand. --A.J. Rathbun

My boyfriend loves mexican so I got this for his birthday. We don't always like to have burritos so this is a great change. It is soooo easy to use. The only thing I would recommend is if you want your tortilla bowls to have more of a restaurant taste and texture do this: before you put the tortilla into the tortilla bowl brush/coat both sides of the tortilla with olive oil (or some other kind of oil). The result is a more crispy/flaky tortilla bowl, and it tastes great! :)

Drape the tortilla in the bowl, bake. Wipe clean. The tortilla bowls are crisp and excellent. I am a middle-aged guy just learning to cook. You can handle this too.

I just recently had a fried tortilla bowl at a restaurant and was in love. I wanted to make my own at home and make them healthier. I found some good ideas for making them using empty cans or oven proof bowls online. Tried that and the results weren't very good. Saw these, thought, Okay, I will give this a try. I really thought I was wasting my money. WOW! What a difference having the actual forms makes in the end result. AWESOME! I brush my tortilla's with olive oil, bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes and they are AWESOME! Husband, child and I all love them. We are now making "tortilla bowls" a couple times a week. We aren't big on salads, so we fill them with beans, mushrooms, corn, avocado, jalapeno's, chili beans, shredded cheese and top it with some sour cream! Makes a fairly healthy, inexpensive, quick and easy meal. BUY THE FORMS! They are worth it!

These are exactly as advertised, and you can avoid fried tortilla bowls. When storing the bowl makers, make sure you put something between them. Otherwise, suction makes them really hard to separate.

Beware if you're interested in buying this item, the description of the product is false. I specifically bought this item (and paid more) because the dimensions given are among the largest available on Amazon. When it arrived, however, it was in a box labeled "Mini Tortilla Bakers." Instead of being 3" deep as described in the listing, they are 2.25. Instead of 8.5" across, they are 7". There are plenty of "mini" bakers on Amazon for lower prices, including some available for Prime shipping. On top of that, since the seller is not Amazon, I don't get the excellent Amazon instant return policy, I have to wait for the seller to "approve" my return. I'm still waiting 3 days later. CAVEAT EMPTOR.
Here's an update now that I have heard back from the seller. The seller refused to accept responsibility for its false description or incorrect shipment and therefore refused to refund shipping cost in either direction (I see that this is now a Prime product but it was not when I bought it-I paid $9.99 for shipping). I won't be dealing with non-Amazon sellers again.

While the instructions indicate an 8 minute baking time, I would strongly suggest that you reduce that time to 5 minutes and then watch the level of browning of the edges. Eight minutes is too much time and causes overdone edges.

This is a great Non-Stick Tortilla mold for pre-made tortillas. We are using the La Vanderita 8" & 10" soft tacos.

They bake up quickly. 7-minutes at 400 degrees. No need to pre-prep the tortillas.

Make sure you use some form of Pam / Cooking Spray sparingly.

Cleans up quickly. Put a paper towel between units and place back into the boxes for protection.

We're goin to have Taco Salad tonight. Enjoy yours!

UPDATE (9-17-2011) - We used a Cadco portable convection oven and they cooked up in about 5 minutes at 400+ We made them fresh for a catering event. They work well especially by stacking them on each other to form the mold then separating the forms and placing 2-3 per 1/2 sheet pan. (Leave the Tortillas in the mold during baking).
They were extremely well liked. Use the 8" for both soft tacos and bowls at an event and 10" for bowls only at the house. Wait till they brown on the edges. We use 8, will be buying another 4-8. Bon-Appitite!

I ordered these from amazon after seeing a commercial on tv for a similar "as seen on tv" product, prime shipping and all, I wanted it fast! I was so excited about trying these out and they did not disappoint at all. These were the larger set, not the mini (although I have placed an order last night for the mini ones to use for dessert shells, can't wait for those) and are adequate size for a taco salad. I haven't had a taco salad in over a decade since most while dining out are deep fried and loaded with too much fat and calories. These came out perfectly and much lower fat and calories too!

My first attempt was making them into dessert bowls with small tortillas. I brushed it orange juice and sprinkle generously with mixture of cinnamon, sugar, and a little nutmeg. I baked it at 375 degrees for 8 minutes but realized it could go for a bit longer so I left them in for 10 but later I was more satisfied with 11 minutes for my oven. I made home made vanilla ice cream and these bowls were sooooo good...almost too tough to break into, tortilla flakes will go flying but it is delicious!

Then I made shells for taco salads. At first I was thinking of using olive oil or coconut oil to brush the top and bottom and then sprinkle on some tex mex seasoning and spices but then I thought...the orange juice I used didn't give it much of an orange flavor so I think the liquid was there to moisten and help seasoning stick to the shell so I brushed it with orange juice and put on savory spices and a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese. YUM!

I am going to post pictures of the shells I made look like. I think next time, I will use chicken stock for the savory shells and stick with orange juice or apple juice...wait, pineapple juice would be delicious too I bet... I'm so very excited about these pans, they work and just opened up a new avenue for culinary adventures!!
