I have used this EXACT same tool, actually belonged to my friends grandmother and was passed to her. Now I can get my own. I process about 24 dozen ears of corn a year (live on a farm so we have an abundance of corn) We usually do 8 dozen at a time, and it takes 2 of us about 2 hours flat. That's washing, blanching, cooling, cutting, & bagging. WAY, WAY, WAY faster than cutting off by hand (been there & done that so I know) and also you get the whole kernel the whole way around and not 1/2 rows from trying to cut a "round" object with "straight" blade.... Hello....
It is easy to use, doesn't require brute force which might account for the bending of the blades some reviewers complain about. It does leave a tiny bit at the tip of the ear where it doesn't quite go small enough but a 2nd person usually has those scraped off with a knife as fast as the cob gets done by the other person.

I tried out this product, and the Norpro corn cutter. I was impressed at first at how durable this item appeared, but after using it for 15 minutes the blade bent. After straightening it back out I tried again, and it bent repeatedly. Even if the blade hadn't bent, I still wouldn't be very impressed. Unless you have ears with very thick cobs, this tool does not get all, or even 1/2 the corn off in one pass. An electric knife does a better job and requires less effort. After the first 20 ears, you start to get tired of pushing this.
