We have a flat hammer-like meat pounder which requires great skill and force to produce the same results. This Norpro pounder is easy to use and control. Rightfully judged the " Best Meat Pounder" by Cook's Illustrated.
As with all previous orders Amazon delivered it promptly and in excellent condition.
It is easy to grip and easy to use. It is like an extension to your fist, you have more control than you do with a mallet. It is easier to get the meat to an even thickness, because of the larger pounding surface. With a mallet you keep hammering and some parts get thinner than others. With this "pounder" it is easier to get that perfect thickness because you can "feel" what you are doing.
I've crushed walnuts and almonds. I've flattened chicken and pork and I've used it to weigh down sandwiches like a panini press. I use a piece of aluminum foil and put the meat pounder on top. Works great. If you're in the market for a meat mallet...try this pounder instead, you won't be sorry.
They probably should include some instructions with this though -- some of the other reviews suggest people are having the same issue I did.
