Because of its proper weight and non-slip handle this meat pounder gives excellent control to the cook and flattened meats come out uniform and even with little effort.
We have a flat hammer-like meat pounder which requires great skill and force to produce the same results. This Norpro pounder is easy to use and control. Rightfully judged the " Best Meat Pounder" by Cook's Illustrated. As with all previous orders Amazon delivered it promptly and in excellent condition.

I am happy to find a reasonably priced pounder that is stainless steel and therefore dishwasher safe.

This kitchen tool is ideal for tenderizing meat, thinning out sirloin for carpaccio and chicken for basil and mozzarella stuffed chicken breasts. I like that it's made well, very heavy, and from a solid piece of stainless steel. It washes up very easily and doesn't have issues with water collecting, because it's only seam (visible in the picture) is extremely tight. The handle is large and easy to grip for me (medium sized male hands) but might be too large for someone with small hands or short fingers. I've been very happy with this tool and would happily recommend it.

Fair price, good weight, and comfortable handle. Does not have a hole in the center which prevents food debris from going in the center like other brands. This is good for sanitary reason. Easy to clean and I like the shiny look. Please save some for me if I need to buy another one later. Parchment paper works great for pounding meat and chicken. I made chicken picatta and used this handy dandy tool. I was the hero for the evening. It is like having Bieber Fever.

What a huge difference the Norpro Stainless Steel Grip-EZ Meat Pounder makes!!! The weight is perfect and makes it so easy to flatten a chicken breast for my chicken Parmesan. I even sliced a pork roast and pounded the slices for some great cutlets! No tired arm. No beaten to death meat. No torn up pieces because I can't get the slice more even. Easy to clean too...no seams for food to stick in! Ten Stars and a special spot in my kitchen for this little wonder!

Not the Best,

I do not like this meat pounder. While I usually agree with the assessments from America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Illustrated, this time I do not. Before writing this, I went to their site to re-read the review and saw that they had declared this Norpro model the victor from among only five models tested. It IS heavy; it IS well-balanced; it IS easy to grip. However, the jarring force exerted on the cook's hand and wrist at the point of impact is pronounced, and I'm no 90-pound weaking. I can feel it in my bones! A pounder with the weight (and impact) positioned away from the wrist by a longer handle to the side is much easier, more efficient, and I'd guess, much safer to use. This one is OK for smaller projects, like one or two chicken breasts. It causes too much discomfort in the hand and wrist to be used for much more at one time.

My old pounder did not weigh enough to do the job right. This is a beauty.

The very day I received this pounder I used it to turn a pork tenderloin into the most delectable escalopes alla Milanese. The best meat pounder. Perfect weight. So easy to use. Love this thing!
TIP: Place the meat you want to pound into a ziploc baggie. This keeps your pounder clean and the meat from tearing. NOTE: The first pounder I received had light scratches on the top, around the handle, making it look as if it had been used so I returned it right away and got a replacement, which arrived in the exact same condition as the other one, same exact scratches, so I'm assuming this is a packaging problem.
