3.0 out of 5 stars Several attemptas nedded when using with brownie batter
I make brownie bites often. I like the design of this, but it's too small for brownie bites and when used with thick brownie batter, it takes several squeezes to get most of the batter out of the scoop. I don't think it's a good tool for what I needed it for, but the construction is good and it seems very sturdy.

The scoop allows every meatball or cookie to be the same size, so they all cook at the same speed. If you like to bake cookies as gifts, using this scoop makes the cookies look like they were bought in a store. It also makes it easier to make items that have a center, like cherry in the middle cookies. This is well worth the money.

I bought this scoop to use for making truffles -- it's perfect! It speeds up the process of shaping the candies, and the resultant 1 tsp scoops are exactly the right size for truffles. Using the scoop also helps cut down the mess that's inherent when working with chocolate; there's less contact between the chocolate and the user's fingers, so there's less melting of the chocolate due to body heat.

I used this teaspoon scoop to shape balls of ganache for truffles. It was much easier than using a spoon, and makes small, bite-sized truffles. It was easy to clean- I didn't find that the chocolate got stuck in the moving parts as I expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Endless Uses - Kitchen Essential, October 25, 2010

This review is from: Norpro Stainless Steel Scoop, 25MM (1.5 Teaspoon) (Kitchen)
This one and a half teaspoon stainless steel scoop has endless uses. After it arrived, I gave the scoop a test run by preparing little flavored butter balls from softened butter and herbs. Once formed and slightly chilled I piled them on a small serving dish. The butter balls added a special touch to the dinner table. I ordered the scoop because I plan to make large ravioli for the holidays and it is the perfect size for the filling.

Since ordering it I've also made truffles, something far easier accomplished using this implement than my previous tool -- a melon baller. That utensil produced ganache balls of different sizes, some smaller, some bigger and required more hand rolling to get a genuine ball shape. Anyone who has hand rolled ganache, knows this is a messy proposition.

This scoop is solid and the balls, whether cookie batter, ganache, butter, or homemade tiny cheese balls are all consistently sized without manipulation. Relatively solid items, like ice cream, butter or ganache are rolled within the scoop to form a ball. With batter, the scoop is dipped in and scraped against the bowl to form a consistent portion to drop on a cookie sheet, in a muffin tin, etc.

The handle is comfortable in the hand and the quality of the material is evident. Because the scoop is constructed of stainless steel, it can be dipped in warm or cold water or gently chilled or heated (depending upon what is being created)to control temperature and ensure easy release.

I own four larger sized scoops and they all have their special jobs but I keep reaching for this small one -- and ideas for new uses keep flowing. A small scoop may not be the first kitchen utensil that comes to mind when thinking of basic tools, but it has quickly become much used in my kitchen and reinvigorated my love of cooking.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Definitely Not a Toy", July 1, 2008

There are many kitchen gadgets out there, and believe me, I've bought them, and trashed them.
This Meatballer is definetely not anywhere near the toy on the shelf category!

This is a real tool for the kitchen! Heavy duty...Well made...Ergonomically acceptable to the hand;and definetely built to last!

For baking it's a Gem...and at least I don't have to listen to my husband complain of different size meatballs!
I have four (4) sizes, and love them!

I make the original "Joy of Cooking" pecan puff recipe from the 1970's cook book. It took me while to find this since it is not in the newer editions. I searched for for a scoop that would make small, bite sized cookie balls, and decided to get the Norpro Stainless Steel Scoop, 25MM (1.5 teaspoon). Although very well made, the dough stuck inside and didn't come out easily, even after refrigerating for an hour. It was almost too small to work efficiently. The release arm inside didn't push the dough out until you clicked it several times, when make a hundred cookies, that get very tiring.

To be fair, this is the only recipe I've tried it on, it's mostly butter and chopped pecans. Maybe it would work better on other recipes. I did like the size of the balls it made and will try it on future recipes.

This makes just the right size drop cookie. The only problem is that the dough sticks and isn't "pushed" out completely by the scooping mechanism. A silicone coating would probably help the situation.

My very first purchase from Norpro - it doesn't disappoint! The mechanism runs smoothly and the grip feels solid. I have 5 scoops from different makers, this is my favorite so far. And yes, it makes perfect sized truffles, cute tiny meatballs and exact same size cookies!

I used it for making chocolate chip cookies (mini morsels) and found the batter did not come out easily. Needed some prodding. Other cookie scoops the batter falls right out. Maybe it is not meant for a thick batter like chocolate chip but will be using for my Florentine cookies this holiday.
