A gifted insight to deeper understanding of seemingly mundane happenstance,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nortada, the North Wind (Global City Review) (Paperback)
Award-winning film producer Michelle Yasmine Valladares is heir to three cultures and three worlds, having spent her childhood in India, Kuwait and Arizona. Her poetry in Nortada, The North Wind is intertwined with complex themes transcending ingrained limitations; though brief, they offer a gifted insight to deeper understanding of seemingly mundane happenstance. Many of these free-verse poems are dedicated to individuals. Though Nortada, The North Wind can be read in a single sitting, it inspires close perusal, careful re-reading, and quiet contemplation at length. "The Table Maker's Dream" (for Jackson Pranikoff): I woke to a song, wood, wood, wood, / a long table stretching beyond. // Yanagi says, / It is not the I that draws a picture / or weaves a cloth, but / picture draws picture, / cloth weaves cloth. // It is not the I carving wood, / but the wood in the I.
