THE GREATEST AMERICAN NATURE DOCUMENTARY.

I've been waiting two months for this nature series to be released on blu-ray. Sure, I could have blown the anticipation, watching it instead on television or found some pirated version somewhere online, but I'm a nature documentary purist and my discipline goes beyond enthusiasm. This strange, almost absurd fascination with the real world has translated into a substantial collection of over a hundred nature blu-rays / videos. This is important for you to know because I want you to appreciate how nature documentaries are my thing. Others collect guns, shoes or passport stamps, I collect nature documentaries.

The first word I said 30-seconds into this series, which underscores its relevance is the word, "FINALLY." As in, finally, an American-based nature series featuring relentless high-definition, exquisite sound quality and stunning rich and diverse biological demographics. Any trucker will tell you, North America is an incomprehensibly vast, diverse and complex space. Anyone who has traveled across the country will relay long-winded stories about voyaging through America's wild spaces. America is a place you can't drive across ocean-to-ocean in a couple days, or, if you tried, you're a complete lunatic with a death wish. NaÔve foreigners come across the pond and attempt ambitious things like driving coast-to-coast, thinking that LA-to-NY is like driving from Spain to Germany, quickly realizing the error of their ways somewhere in Kansas. The American frontier is an enormous, often treacherous, unforgivable place which has never been captured so elegantly, beautifully and with such heartfelt admiration as found in this series.

For those who may not know this is a documentary on animal life in North America, from the mountains of Alaska to the rain forests of Central America this covers some of the most amazing animals in their natural habitats. Over time there have been many Nature Documentaries that have show the detail of wild life from around the world but "North America" takes it to a whole other level. All of the video is shot in stunning HD and the colors are amazing on a big screen. Some of the footage I could not believe how close they were able to get to the animals without them knowing.

If you love nature documentaries pick this one up. You should also get a copy of Planet Earth from BBC if you have not already. Worth every penny of this price.

Everyone should watch this 7 part series. Beautiful and fantastic video. Tom Selleck did a great job as the narrator. What a beautiful country we live in. This should be shown in our schools for everyone to appreciate nature. Very educational.

After watching the first episode I think this series is off to a great start. I am happy Discovery Channel is still supporting scenery & nature documentaries instead of just reality TV stuff. Considering the advancement in recording technology I hope there will be more series like this one produced in the future. Some of these animals and scenery might not look the same or be around 20-30 years down the road.

This has some of the greatest nature photography ever recorded, and I say that having seen all of the BBC nature docs. It's simply spectacular and genuine videophile demo material for a big screen.

Unfortunately, it's marred by teenie-bopper, MTV-style editing, where they never stay with one thing for long, and constantly throw in cheesy quick-edits where images are flashed for fractions of a second in a distracting manner. I'm under 40 and on the internet all day, but nature is supposed to be a respite from all that. Why do they have to ruin things with ADD techniques?

Similarly, they throw in terrible rock songs as jokey references to what's happening on-screen. But we don't want to hear rock and roll when watching snakes mating. The insatiable desire for pop culture relevance sadly distracts everywhere. It's always a mistake to alienate your core audience in the misguided attempt to appeal to some demographic that doesn't care anyway. Still, brilliant photography and Sellick is pleasant as narrator.

Best thing since planet earth. The footage is breathtaking! It's crazy to thing a simple 5 minute clip may have taken months of filming and preparing!
Really though, this is a continent like you've never seen it before. Breathtaking. Simply breathtaking.

You need to see it to believe it.

Worth every penny!

Too bad there are no subtitles so you can turn down the Dolly Parton , Etc. Soundtrack music

As it is completely ruined by such awful soundtrack music and editing nearly that makes you just wish at least they would put sub titles in this documentary so you can turn down the sound and enjoy "nature" instead of USA style of "t.v".
