About the Author
Patrick Hook is a scientist and engineer who lives deep in the countryside of Devon, England. His interests in wildlife and the environment began as a young child when he managed to introduce snakes into the guest bedroom, and caterpillars into the kitchen. Since then he has continued to study the natural world while keeping up a full-time career in motor-racing. This gave him the opportunity to travel extensively and visit many of the world’s more exotic locations. He has written several books on natural history, and these days runs a company developing space-age materials. He has many other interests including photography, classic cars, racing motorcycles and restoring old houses.

I saw a copy of this book on a friend's coffee table. I'm not even a "bird" person, but I found the photos to be absolutely breathtaking. I would find myself thinking, "Well, there's no way the photographer's going to top that shot!" Then a couple pages later, I'd be proven wrong. This happened again and again throughout the book. For Christmas, I ordered one of these for my mother, who *is* a bird person. She raved about it!
