This review is from: North American Elk: Ecology and Management (Hardcover)
The updated version of Toweil's lifelong study of elk. I don't know him but can imagine him hiking miles in the wilderness. Fascinating information - an example is "knuckle-cracking" which helps elk distinguish members of their herd from predators when they are in areas with low visibility such as willow patches. I immediately had to go and listen for it and they REALLY do it and can be heard from 20 yards away! Whether you are a biologist or hunter or wildlife manager this is a perfect comprehensive reference but so fascinating that youll probably find yourself unable to put it down. It is really cool when an ecology text is a page turner.
