Book Description

September 17, 2008
North American Kajukenbo is a combination of several Martial Arts. This ensures students receive the most effective form of self defense, confidence and physical conditioning. Students are taught a broad range of techniques including Kenpo-Karate; a combination of two self-defense forms. Kenpo and Karate are very similar arts, yet somewhat different in nature. Kenpo describes the Chinese style of Karate, while the more modern term "Karate" is the system of Okinawa and Japan. Kenpo means "Law of the fist" and Karate means "Empty hands". Included in the NAK system is Judo and Jui Jitsu, the fighting and grappling methods. These forms develop the use of hands, elbows, legs, eyes, ears and alertness in Mind, Body and Spirit!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive, technical, how-to Kajukenbo book to date., December 18, 2008
By
This review is from: North American Kajukenbo (Paperback)
This book is a "must have" if you are interested in learning Kajukenbo or if you wish to increase the knowledge you already have on this subject. The author has dedicated this book to describing each belt covered, in complete, yet understandable, technical detail. He has not gone into great detail on the history of Kajukenbo, which he states in the book was done intentionally. He even recommends John Bishop's book as the definitive history source.

Mr. Hinton has done a remarkable job of describing and cataloging techniques used in Kajukenbo belt by belt. I especially like the breakdown this book gives you and the way Mr. Hinton's writing style makes you feel as if you were in a Kajukenbo Dojo. I have not seen this in any other book on this subject. The only other place I have found this type of concise detailing of Kajukenbo techniques is in videos from the early 1990's. I like having it in book form so I can take it with me wherever I am.
This book for techniques, Biships book for the history and Gary Forbach's DVD's for techniques would complete any Kajukenbo library.
My only regret is that I live to far away to take classes with Professor Sal if he is still teaching.

This is a great introduction to North American Kajukenbo. Easy to read yet very detailed. It is nice to get a book you can use and finish in a resonable amount of time. It has great detail of each move. It would be better with pictures.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs Pictures, September 1, 2009
This review is from: North American Kajukenbo (Paperback)
Please note this book contains no pictures, drawings, or diagrams. It is a step by step catalog of kajukenbo techniques particular to this instructor's branch. It also does not contain any forms or sets information. As a kajukenbo student I enjoy the comparrison of techniques and sets between the different branches of kajukenbo. Unfortunately, without pictures this is impossible. I was also very disapointed that the Palama or Pinyan Sets were not included as this is a major component of kajukenbo training.
