Nice overview of each of the major and most of the minor North American locomotive manufacturers from the steam era. After and intro on each company and some period photos, the author discusses the builder's plaques that were installed on many engines. Separate section at the end has a bunch of modern pictures of old builder's plates taken from old engines. Only thing that might have made it better was more of the builders' histories (but then the book would have been a lot bigger).
