Book Description

January 2005
North Between The Houses is a collection of very funny, often ribald anecdotes collected over thirty years of service by former Detroit Police Chief, Isaiah "Ike" McKinnon.

Many of the stories speak to the hardships and heartaches that only battered urban royalty like Detroit can sustain yet endure. Racism and poverty are common threads woven into these tales. As are hope and humor.

Ride and Prejudice

Two young black Detroit police officers were on patrol when they observed a motorcycle speeding north on Grand River. The officers pursued the offender and pulled him over within a few blocks. As the officers approached the cyclist, they observed that he was a large white male 6’3", 270 lbs with a long beard. The man spoke with a strong southern accent and had multiple tattoos on both arms. He asked the officers what had he done. The officers explained that he was speeding and they wanted to see his driver’s license and registration. The man pleaded that he worked at a local factory, had just gotten off his shift and was relaxing by loosening up his steed. Hows about a break for a working man? The officers were almost convinced until they observed a button on his lapel that proclaimed "No More Niggers". The man was lucky he only got a ticket.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stranger than Fiction, March 21, 2005
This review is from: North Between the Houses (Paperback)
These stories are pretty good. There's a lot of stupid and desperate people out there. The cops have their work cut out for them. But it's good to know they can laugh.
