Excellent book for North Carolina gardeners,
By cherylcitron@juno.com (Raleigh, North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: North Carolina Gardener's Guide (Paperback)
This book has been very helpful for me in choosing, planting and understanding how to take care of annuals, perennials, groundcovers, shrubs, trees, bulbs, vines and herbs that will grow well in North Carolina. The choices at a gardening center can be overwhelming, but Tony Bost's advice can help you focus on plantings that have a good chance to succeed in a N.C. garden. I especially like the great detail that goes into the exact way to plant your selection, and the maintenance of the plant, so that you know how often and with what to fertilize the plant, and how to water and prune it. Tony Bost has also included up to date information on new cultivars that are being developed and relies a lot on excellent research that is currently being done at the Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh.

A Must for NC gardeners,
By GreenLevel (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: North Carolina Gardener's Guide (Paperback)
For anyone who is interested in gardning in NC, this book is a must. Most gardinging books would only concentrate on how good the plant is. BUt this book also tells us some of the "problems" one might have with the plants and what kind of pests/diseases a plant might be susceptible to. I should have given 5-Stars for this book. The reason I did not give is the indexing is a bit confusing -- the botanical and common names are used in mixed mode. This is not a big problem though, once you get used to the book.Again, this book is a must for all gardeners in NC -- experience as well as novices.

I like that there is a picture of the plant on the same page as the description of the plant. I have used another Carolina gardening book that had all of the pictures in one place and the descriptions in another and that got to be a bit annoying. This book has a nice overview of the region's most popular plants. This is the best Carolina gardening reference book I have seen yet.

Great advice, suggestions for our region and specifics for what will work, what won't and even why!! Easy to use book to plan out your gardens, take with me to nursery/big box stores with me to help choose, especially when things are on sale!! Really love this book and highly recommended for the novice and seasoned gardener alike. Interesting read, also, quite witty and charming.

Very informative, region-specific and fun to use. I am sure I will dog-ear the pages and use it for years. I bought it used, super cheap, and it arrived in like-new condition. I like it enough to have bought it new if used had not been available used.

I bought this but returned it for the Carolina's month
by month book. This book is nice to look at but not as helpful as the other. |
