Editorial Reviews

Review

"The Best Cook in Boston's North End."
--The Boston Herald

"Marguerite's ravioli is so well known in this historically Italian neighborhood of Boston that the recipe itself has become something of a culinary celebrity."
--Yankee magazine

From the Back Cover

Think of Boston’s North End and you think of great food. Italian markets filled with strings of thick sausage, great wheels of cheese, bushels of seafood, slabs of dark chocolate, and mounds of fresh fruits and vegetables line the streets. For generations, the cooks of this Italian-American neighborhood have transformed these wonderful ingredients into memorable meals.
Now Marguerite DiMino Buonopane, one of the North End’s most celebrated cooks, shows you how to create culinary magic in your own kitchen. With more than twenty new recipes, evocative photos from the North End, and engaging anecdotes, this all-new fifth edition of a cookbook classic (more than 150,000 copies in print) is certain to become a treasured addition to your collection.

Marguerite DiMino Buonopane is a former restaurant chef-owner and host of the legendary luncheons at the old North End Union, a nonprofit community settlement house. For thirty years she taught cooking classes in the North End. She currently writes a newspaper column, “Table Talk.”

5.0 out of 5 stars RECIPES YOU THOUGHT WERE GONE FOREVER, September 11, 2002
By
LENNY SANTORA (HICKSVILLE, NEW YORK United States) - See all my reviews
Let me just say you will be amazed at the recipe's that are in this book. I know I was. Remember Mom's cooking and Grandma's cooking? How you begged them for the recipe and how they would never give the recipes or omit some of the ingredients so it would never quite taste the same? How many of those recipes have gone to the grave with them? Well they are in this book and you can enjoy them again and again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for beginners of Italian cooking, January 18, 1999
I found this book under the title of the North End Union Italian Cookbook. This is the revised version. I am of Italian heritage, and found the recipes to be just like my nonna and mother made. The recipes are easy, delicious, andd truly Italian. A must for anyone wanting to cook traditional Italian food from antipasto to biscotti.

5.0 out of 5 stars North End Italian Cookbook, July 14, 2004
By A Customer
I hesitated to order since I have so many Italian cookbooks. This is a must have! Growing up in NY lots of recipes in here you loved especially from your Italian grandparents & didn't know what went in it or forgot about until you see the recipes.
