I've just finished North And Left [Take II]. My sister's gay. She bought it, read it and passed it on to me.
Though I'm straight, and Emilie isn't, I totally empathized with her ban on Quick-fix affairs and her impulse to flashback to moments of connectivity with others, past lovers, at a time when her real time life feels empty. This is the 1st lesbian novel I've ever read and I couldn't have wished for a more thoughtful, realistic, sexy novel to breach the gap.
I feel so strongly about this that I really wouldn't mind posting my thoughts on other boards.

I totally relate to her. We tend to think or more to the point to feel the same way about the glorified state of being alone.
Being alone is the pips. It's not often that empowering, self-discovery state that many say it it.
Quick fix "Band-Aid" affairs, as Alex calls them, stink too.
So .. where is it safe to go, if not back in time? Back to happier days, sexier days?
I, too, have great memories. They sustain me while my transiton to a new relationship keeps eluding me.
